Owner description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

I've been to the "new" (now not-so-new) Guthrie many times. The venue is great, and the food at the Level 5 Cafe is better than I expected. The cantilevered bridge is nice to wander out on during intermissions or before a play. As for the plays, it's been a mix -- some great, some disappointing. But at least the seats are always comfortable and there aren't really any bad seats in any of the stages within the Guthrie.

Always enjoy the shows and never miss an opportunity to sit on the endless bridge with a glass of wine.

We saw a wonderful play at this fantastic Theatre. The rush ticket booth is a very good deal. Be sure to visit the balcony in the intermission - wonderful outdoor view of the river.

Went and saw Pride and Prejudice there. The play itself was good, not great. The theatre is very neat - it is multiple theatres in one building. There are 2 restaurants nearby. We walked to the theatre from our downtown hotel and it was a nice, safe walk. The theatre we were in had great views from all seats and it was easy to hear.

Almost any Guthrie play is a pleasure. Tickets are expensive by Midwest standards (usually $40-60), but some "rush" seats are available just before most performances (be in line at least 30 minutes prior) and there are some senior discounts. Guided tours backstage (offered daily) are enjoyable too.
