Owner description: THE GUTHRIE THEATER is an American center for theater performance, production, education and professional training, known for its dynamic productions of classic and contemporary plays. Open to the public year-round, this award-winning cultural destination houses three theaters, dramatic public spaces and distinctive dining. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel, the Guthrie is located in the historic Mill District of Downtown Minneapolis and features a 175-foot cantilever bridge which overlooks the Mississippi River. When it opened in 2006 Time magazine called the building "a 21st century dream factory." Visit the Guthrie to see a show, grab a cup of coffee and explore the building, shop at the Guthrie Store, or to simply take in the extraordinary riverfront views. Backstage tours are Friday and Saturday mornings.

The Guthrie's seating was more comfortable at the old location. There is a reason why the crowds are smaller than before, and it is not the economy. The play selection is poor and the planning is poorer. They will have two plays showing at the same time, so their is unnecessary competition to get a drink, as well as to use the bathrooms. (Why not stagger start times?) The actors deserve better.

Thank you for your recent review of the Guthrie Theater. I'm sorry to hear that your expectations were not met.

The Wurtele Thrust Stage is nearly an exact replica of the old space on Vineland Place. We did remove 200 seats, changing from 1300 to 1100, to enlarge seat sizes, allow more leg room and to improve sightlines. Our McGuire Proscenium Stage seats are roughly the same size and is great for more contemporary works. Selecting an aisle seat can typically allow for more room.

Our lobby spaces can get crowded when there are two performances going on but we house over 5 open bar areas and more than 4 restroom locations on Levels 4 and 5 that can help alleviate long lines. For pre-show or intermission refreshments try out the Target Lounge below the cantilever on Level 4 or the bars on Level 5. Our bars also offer pre-intermission beverage purchases so you don't have to wait! Feel free to ask our friendly ushers in red and blue shirts for directions any time you visit.

I hope I addressed your comments and that you consider joining us again in the future.

The Guthrie Theater is a magnificent piece of architecture, both inside and out. One part juts out over the Mississippi River and has see through angle windows, ghost like images of past plays actors on the walls, and more.
This is in addition to a theater in the round inside and outstanding actors and actress, with top notch plays. Everyone who comes to Minneapolis should go there at least for the view.
You can also have dinner there at at least 2 different restaurants, that are very good.

Everything at the Guthrie was fantastic. We saw A Christmas Carol and loved it. All the seats are good. Parking is easy, staff is very friendly and courteous!

The Guthrie is a wonderful venue to see a play. The 3 stages each offer a unique viewing experience, well set up for the type of play being performed. I have had seats in a variety of places in each production area, and have never had a "bad" seat. The view of the Mississippi from the "bridge to nowhere" deck is also lovely.

We have season tickets to the Guthrie and usually have a difficult time picking just 6 plays to attend. They have a variety of well known and some world premier offerings. The acting talent is superb. The architecture of the building is unique with panoramic views of the Mississippi River. Most seats have a good view of the stage our only complaint is that there isn't a lot of leg room for those over six feet.

Thank you for your review of the Guthrie Theater and for being a subscriber! Being over six feet tall can be a challenge with theater seats but we'd be more than happy to talk about finding an aisle seat to accommodate your needs.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
