This museum has a fabulous reputation in the field for its innovativeness. I was probably expecting too much... not quite sure why it does not rise to "excellent" except that it was uneven - some very good exhibits, others disappointing. The sculpture plark (even on a cold October day) was great - and you can see it for free. The construction made it a little hard to walk around the building itself, but find your way to the Turrell on the other side from the sculpture park.
Also a really good museum store.

It's an okay art museum. Some of the art I would hardly consider art. It didn't capture my interests personally. The price is fair, however I would definitely go to another art museum in the area over this one next time. The sculpture garden is great, everything else, meh.

One of the great pleasures of Uptown is the Walker Art Center. The only bad aspect is it isn't cheap to go here. I visit several times throughout the year and generally always on that first Saturday of the month where it is free. The trick is to come early before all the screaming kids inhabit the building. The Walker has changed a lot over the years but it still remains the best place to view modern art in the Twin Cities. With the rotating repetoire and the great new building design no two trips will ever be alike. Probably one of the best locations around for great people watching.

I think being able to walk outside and enjoy what is offered in the garden would be great - but it was January in Minneapolis. So, inside was Claes Oldenburg exhibit and it was well done but just not my favorite kind of art. It did, however, make me smile a few times. The museum itself is quite beautiful and it's worth the effort, though heavy on modern. There was much accompanying mixed media art, lots of cinema, also not my favorite. But a wonderful place to exhibit it all.

We live locally here in the Twin Cities, but we make sure to do the 'tourist' stuff in our own backyard sometimes! Just visited the Walker Art Center after viewing the British Arrow Awards in one of the theaters the Walker has. Has unique, fun, crazy, weird, modern, strange art exhibits that will have you scratching your head and asking, "Huh?!" Also, we love the outdoor Scultpure Garden (which you can walk through in the winter, too! brrrr) that is wonderful in the warmer months.
