“Heart of this city......”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

We principally visited Nicollet Mall as part of the Ave, which is relatively traffic free (only buses plying the area) - however the Ave stretches across a few suburbs.

It’s such a pleasant area to see and we got the feeling that Nicollet Ave is the heart of the city with plenty of shopping, eating and chock-full with nine to fivers during lunchtime. Experiencing the historical, cultural and daily life of any city can be fun on foot and exploring parts of Nicollet Ave was great - we were lucky to have perfect weather on our visit.

There is such ethnic diversity within just a few short blocks - vibrant restaurants on Eat St, bustling cafes and the best thing to experience, the Farmers Market off 7th St and Nicollet - simply amazing!

Luckily we stumbled on it while walking the city and it was one of the highlights. So no guesses, we didn’t get too far along the Ave once we found this Market! Here there were throngs of people but overall we found the Ave was somewhat deserted by comparison. We later found (of course) that using the Skywalks was the way to get around between the buildings.

Downtown has much to offer and perhaps a longer visit is required! Walking outside though is the best way to admire the unique architecture of both the historical and modern buildings of this area.

Enjoy your experience!

“Interesting street to visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 24, 2012

There are some good restaurants and lots of shops, upscale and less so, along this street in downtown Minneapolis. A caffeine addict, I appreciated the coffee shops most of all, and the street musicians were also interesting (though this visit was at a cold time of year, and they were probably not out in as much force as they would be in, say, June). This street is well served by public transportation, a good idea since parking appears to be a possible challenge. (I wouldn't be an expert on that, since I didn't rent a car for this business trip.)

“Nicollet Avenue - "Eat Street"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 27, 2012

Nicollet Avenue has more that one attraction, but the part of it that I was rating was "Eat Street", the area between abut 24th Street and 29th Street, which is heavily populated with ethnic restaurants, most of which are very good. Quang, the Penninsula, Christos and many others are along this street and one can find food from many cultures. Close to the Minneapolis Institute of Art and a short bus or cab ride from Minneapolis Convention Center.

“Walking down the Ave.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 29, 2012

Nicollet Avenue in downtown Minneapolis is the heart of Minneapolis. It's restricted to buses, which are free in the downtown area so you can stroll for a while and then hop on a bus to go the rest of the way.

Be sure to come on a Thursday during the summer if you can. That's when there's a Farmer's Market that stretches for several blocks in the heart of downtown (7th and Nic) It's a great way to stock up on veggies and other treats if you work downtown, and if you are a visitor, you'll get a sense of the cultural diversity in this city with many vendors selling unique items (Hmong veggies, African arts, etc.)

There is so much to do/see/eat here. Great shopping, nice for walkers - no traffic allowed except buses.
