What do Aloha, neon, and concrete have in common? Nothing. That's probably why a stay at this hotel feels so weird. It was strange to be in Minneapolis, in a stark modern hotel, and be greeted with an enthusiastic "Aloha!" It seemed as if a very diverse group of people must have sat in a room somewhere, probably with too much caffeine, and thrown out random ideas for a hotel and kept each idea.

The concept is off with this hotel.

Despite that, the hotel is okay. Rooms are clean -but they are new. But the amenities inside are cheap. The closet, or closet nook, is woefully inadequate. The bed has a strange mattress cover which tends to migrate as you sleep. Very uncomfortable. Also, the acoustics between bathroom and room are loud. I sometimes wondered if there was a wall between. Lighting was a cheap florescent bulb above bed that was reminiscent of hospital lighting. Also, the light switch made it impossible to turn on bathroom light to take an early morning shower without flipping on the light above the bed. Not good if the other person wanted to keep sleeping.

Downstairs is nicer. The gym was nice and spacious. Also very clean. The lobby is interesting, but uncomfortable furniture makes it awkward. The pool area and outdoor fireplace area were nice, but it was too cold to take advantage.

Also, there isn't any room service so forget about a snack in your room.

Basically, it's a hotel that needed more thought to make it comfortable for the business traveller. Next time, I'm staying at the W.

The words "W concept hotel" will forever cast doubt in my mind. What it really means is, "we didn't feel like building a really nice hotel, so we tried this instead". The Aloft had some good points, the staff is friendly, even though it's weird that they say "Aloha" instead of Hello. And it's kind of edgy, stylistically. And they have nice bath products. But that's pretty much it. The place looks like what would happen if a dorm room and a W mated - you can tell they tried to focus on the things that matter, but they missed. The bed isn't comfortable, the room isn't one you want to hang out in... too much cast concrete! and the neighborhood is kind of dreary. Don't forget your toothbrush or it'll cost $6 for a new one. Would I rather stay here than the Super 8? Yes. But it wasn't as cheap as it felt, so I ended up disappointed. Spend a little more and stay downtown.

Very trendy reception and very sharp facillities - gym, bar, pool table, hallways. I stayed in the one suite which is very large - maybe 700ish square feet. Ikea furniture for sure, but a great deal at $229 for a suite.

I'm a local that lives near by, but we popped in to check out the lobby & bar and have a few drinks.

Happy hour runs til seven. Big lobby room divided into a few sections - the round check in desk, and the food shop off to the left, the pool table & other games off to the right, and the bar, fireplace & more seating to the back right.

Very modern & hip.

There's even an inner courtyard where you can enjoy the outside. From the bar you can see thru the glassed courtyard, to the swimming pool room.

For those staying there, plenty of food & bar options near by, and a liquor store next door. You are also close to the river & the scenic stone arch walking bridge and the new Guthrie theater.
