“Unique hotel”
Reviewed June 10, 2014

I was able to stay at The Hotel Minneapolis during a business trip in April. Loved all the marble in and around the foyer and all of the other unique qualities of the former bank turned hotel. My room was upgraded to a junior suite and it was so roomy. The bed was one of the most comfortable I had slept on while traveling (wanted to bring it and the duvet home) we were given voucher for the breakfast and they had a very large buffet area. The food was good and the service was friendly and quick, We had asked about the old bank vaults and were told they are now wine cellars. Loved the convenience from the hotel to worksite.
My only complaint was I couldn't spend more time in my fabulous
room. I would definitely come back on my own and hope to be back on business next year.

First, this hotel is in a great location for exploring downtown Minneapolis, within a comfortable walking distance of major attractions, including the Mill City Museum, Guthrie Theater, St Anthony Falls Heritage Trail (Stone Arch Bridge), Walker Art Center, and Minneapolis Institute of Arts. There are many good dining and eating establishments nearby, including all those located along Nicollet Mall. Part of the Marriott organization, the hotel now fills the old Midland Bank Building and is connected to the city’s skyway system and within one block of the city’s light rail.

This was our second visit – the first three years ago – and we find the hotel in need of some freshening up, plus a good cleaning. Nothing about the room was stomach-turning, but there were multiple stains on the carpet, a black line of dirt where the carpet meets the wall in the bedroom and, in the bathroom, toothpaste on the wall, a slight smell of mildew, a missing drain stop in the sink, a “rain” showerhead with no water coming through the center perforations, and so forth. This is not what we experienced before and not what we expected the second time around.

Additionally, during our previous visit we were able to purchase morning coffee and light pastries in the lobby, which perfectly suits our normal routine. This time, our only option (which did not interest us at all) was a full breakfast in the “restaurant Max.”

On a positive note, the front desk was very, very helpful, both during check-in/check-out and when we needed access to print our airplane boarding passes (the printer provided for guests was out of order). And the valet staff was professional, prompt, helpful and friendly… simply superb over our four-day stay.

We did not eat any meals in the hotel, but on our final night stopped into the bar (Max’s) for a late night snack. The draft beer and glasses where wonderfully cold. The flat bread and onion rings were in no way special, and certainly not worth what we had to pay.

Would we return? Probably not, especially as there are so many other options nearby.

Hello! This hotel was in a great location for my husband and I. It was right between the Depot & Target Field-which worked perfectly for us. The hotel itself was nice, we liked it. I believe the building was an old bank, so their theme was of that nature. There was an elevator that we quickly learned was a service elevator-wasn't labeled the greatest; we (and some other guests) accidently went in it! That elevator brought us to a laundry room. The biggest downfall of this hotel is that no ramp was connected. They did offer valet, but i'm not a fan of valet. When I pulled up to the hotel (husband was meeting me there), the valet guy wasn't too friendly & not too helpful. We didn't eat at their resturant/bar, but it looked nice! Overall, our experience was great! I would recommend this hotel if it's location works for you! <3 mpls

Dear Richelle,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am pleased to hear that you and your husband found our location convenient for your trip.

Due to our location we do not have a parking lot on site but instead offer the use of another lot which is valet only.

I am pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay with us.
We hope to welcome you back to our hotel next time you are in Minneapolis.

Sincerely,

Emma S

Great service. Rooms were very quite, spacious and clean. Great location right downtown! I really enjoyed my stay here. Just wish the hotel bar stayed open longer. The last drinks were served at 11:30 and were told to leave shortly after that. There was still quite the crowd in the bar at this time and none of us were ready to leave.

I stayed 3 nights here while in town for a conference. The room was clean, bright, and comfortable with plenty of hot water and in-room complimentary coffee. The location is very good, and is only a block from the train to the airport and Mall of America. I also ate breakfast in the restaurant three mornings and dinner in the bar one night. The food is very good - well above average for a hotel. The staff was superior - especially Amy, who was our server all three mornings.

This hotel is an old bank building that has been restored. They still have the original marble, vault, etc. It is a neat place to stay and the rooms very large and comfortable. The only complaint was that the nightstand had a good amount of dust on it otherwise everything was great. Perfectly quiet and it was Saturday night, and we enjoyed that. Staff was very helpful. Would defiantly reccommend!!

Stayed here for two days over a weekend and was impressed with the uniqueness of the property. Read the history on their website for more details. Stayed in junior king suite that offered enough room for our family. Great downtown location, hotel and room was nicely appointed and clean. Great valet staff, they rivaled any I've experienced in larger cities.

All in all a great stay. Only reason for the 4 star is there is no swimming pool on sight. Would definitely stay here again.
