“Third Thursday”
Reviewed January 15, 2013

MIA is one of the best places to visit in Minneapolis. If you go on the Third Thursday of the month at night they are always hosting a special event. In December I was able to become a member for a day and see the special exhibit and also try some wonderful food. This month they are doing something with the theme of Choose Your Own Adventure Books. Each month a new theme and different activities. It is also nice to be able to walk around the MIA at night.

“How a modern museum should look like”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

This recent visit to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts (MIA) was focused on the Terracotta Warriors exhibit, but I have been to the MIA quite a few times in the past. I have to say that this is one of the better organized art museums that I have been to (and I have to been to quite a few over the years). The special exhibits are always organized in such a way that it will be hard to miss any of the exhibit pieces. The permanent exhibits are definitely what a modern and first-class museum such as the MIA should house. Also, the pieces in each of the rooms are far enough apart that crowding is minimized. I would definitely come back here again, especially with the very interesting special exhibits that the MIA hosts each time!

“Culture when you need it”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

Consistently good exhibits and the place to go when I need a little culture in my life. It really helps that there is free parking and The Children's Theatre is next door. Peaceful and upscale. This place always brings Minneapolis up a notch.

“Intriguing exhibits and FREE Thursday nights”
Reviewed January 11, 2013

We went here for a date night on a Thursday night. All Thursday night entrances are free. The exhibits were smart but not impossibly smart for the non-art expert. The exhibits also rotate fairly frequently. The architecture is inventive and out of the mold. I would also gladly pay the entrance fee, but hey, if you can go for free, why not?

“Wonderful for learning and for developing your sense of gratitude”
Reviewed January 10, 2013

I'm not a big art fan and after a few rooms I'm typically ready to leave, but the MIA has such a variety of art that you find something new around each bend. The information on the walls (etc.) helps the newbies understand why something is considered great art. The admission price -- zero -- makes you feel tremendous gratitude toward those who valued art so much that they wanted everyone, rich poor and in-between, to be able to see it.
