“Ok, Maybe stay again”
Reviewed July 8, 2008

The lobby was nice and the breakfast was good but spendy- 99% of hotels in todays world offers a free continental breakfast especially at the price that the Hilton charges.
The beds comfortable but the room was GROSS. Woke up in the morning to find a Bug under one of the comforters. When we walked into the room the bathroom mirror had a hand print on it and the sink was dirty. We were there for a wedding so we were rushed out of the room right away and did not have a chance to call house keeping. The Bug is what sealed the box for me. The hallway leading to the Alltel Center was terrible looking they had a big planter with a fake plant in it that was broken into pieces and looked like it had been there for awhile. There was a jr.league pool tournament going on as well. The pool is TINY. We had 4 kids in there and it seemed like there was no room for anyone else to come into the pool with them and it was COLD. The hot tub was nice though. We stayed in a basic room with double queens and the Flat screen LCD TV's are nice- the size of the rooms are nice as well.

Wow we were so excited when we pulled up to this new building right next to the convention center. The parking ramp located right next to the hotel was also very handy. When we arrived at our room however, our hearts sank. It was filthy!! There were pretzles, flowers, crumbs all over the floor. The mirror looked like someone wiped their nose in their hand then on the mirror. The chair was full of cracker crumbs, and the bathroom sink was full of hair. Management was able to relocate us to another room on the same floor, as our party had three rooms together. Upon further inspection we found none of the rooms had been vacuumed. Management admitted they have been having some problems with the cleaners and gave us coupons for breakfast at the hotel resturaunt. Management did a very professional job of taking care of the situation. Thank you.

My wife and I spent two nights here and loved it. I booked our reservation through the Hilton Garden Inn Website and chose the Romance Package which included in-room champagne, full breakfast for two and extended check-out. An initial glitch at check-in was quickly rectified and we enjoyed exemplary service for the rest of our stay.

Highlights of our room included an elegant but not ostentatious decor, a roomy bathroom and a superb bed. All aspects of the room conveyed quality and attention to detail. We were on the 5th floor and although louder vehicles could be heard from the street below, noise from other rooms was non-existent.

Perhaps the best asset of this hotel is the on-site restaurant, Olives, specializing in American food with a Mediterranean flair. We had to wait till 8:00 Saturday night to get in for dinner but it was well worth it. For $60 including tax and tip, my wife and I enjoyed an appetizer and two generous entrees, beautifully prepared. In a time when "hovering" by over-earnest waitstaff seems to be the norm, we greatly appreciated how our server efficiently did her job, then left us alone to focus on the superior food and each other's company. By all indications Olives is the best restaurant in Mankato and is a great value by any standard.

Additionally, the business center, fitness center and pool/whirlpool areas were all very well outfitted and meticulously clean.

A couple of things did seem incongruous. First, while our room featured a 32-inch flatscreen HDTV and a generous selection of channels, there were only three channels in high-definition (ABC, CBS and NBC) -- more HD channels would have been nice as would pay-per-view movies (there were none). The heating/AC unit was noisy even on the "low" setting and the digital thermostat took quite a bit of tinkering to figure out. The bathtub fixture also was more complicated than necessary; a lot of water ran down the drain before I figured out how to turn on the shower. Still though, these are all just minor quirks. In the things that really count, this hotel gets it right from top to bottom.

As a side note, if you are planning to spend the weekend in Mankato and want to visit the Old Town destinations ("local flavor" antique stores, yarn shop, coffee shops, used bookstore, etc.), do it on Saturday -- they are all closed Sunday -- and be aware that everything except the restaurants and bars shut down by 4 Saturday afternoon.

Bottom line, the Hilton Garden Inn Mankato is is a terrific hotel that will be even better if the city around it can catch up. Room rates are reasonable and parking is free in an adjoining ramp. Part of the city's event center complex, the hotel is poorly signed (we almost drove right past it the first time) and has zero curb appeal. But don't let that deter you -- everything inside is first-rate.

The Hilton Garden Inn Mankato Downtown, is by far the best hotel I have stayed in, during my trips to Mankato. This hotel is brand new, and comes with everything you could ask for. The hotel staff was very friendly, and helpful. I found the office center to be very nice. Traveling on business, it is nice to have fax/printer ability. Not to mention, the free internet in my room. Parking is great, I typically was right ouside the main entrance. Olives is a great restaurant located right off the lobby. The food and service is excellent!! This hotel is the only way to stay, when visiting Mankato.

  • Liked — The location, and being a brand new facility
  • Disliked — The front entrance to the hotel, there is no room to park while you check in.

Just returned from a 4 night stay at this property and I have to say the hotel was exceptional. It is very new, so age has not taken its toll yet.

I had a King Room which was quite large and with Wireless and a Large LCD TV it had all the amenities you'd want.

Public areas are very nice and the onsite restaurant and bar was great. We ate there one night and my meal was very good. The bar prices were reasonable when we stayed in one night and the staff throughout the hotel were very friendly and helpful.

My only comment for families would be that the pool, while very nice is also very small. I didn't use it personally but it may or may not factor in your choice.

It's so new that it was poorly signed but overall, it was a very enjoyable stay.

Stayed here one night in January '08. Just opened in October of '07. Wonderful hotel located in downtown Mankato. Have stayed at most hotels in Mankato at one point or another and this place is head and shoulders above the rest. Big rooms, comfy beds, big screen LCD's with tons of channels including HBO and Showtime. Lobby bar and Restaurant "Olives" is very nice. Drinks reasonably priced. Very friendly staff throughout the hotel. Close walking distance to nightlife area and restaurants. Parking on-site in garage is free. Wonderful bargain for $109 - hope it's not just a promotional rate. American Express had difficulty locating this facility. It's about time Hiton Brands put a presence in Mankato ! Will stay here again everytime !
