Cleverly hidden in this casino is fine dining? Absolutely! From excellent service, to ambiance, to fabulous food can be found in the 2 One 8 restaurant. Steaks and seafood done to perfection with delicious sides and apps. And if you are able, try the decadent chocolate cake for dessert. It is kind of spendy for around here but the food and outstanding service is worth it.

Stayed at shooting star casino March 28th & 29th.Hotel needs a major overhaul.
Rooms are not very clean.Housekeeping does its best with what they have to deal with. More management error than workers. Hotel carpets are filthy.Dont take your shoes off.
Casino is fun but needs a major clean job. Especially the CARPETS.Staff is friendly.Too many
new computer games. The older games are more fun!!!!!!!!!!! Have been going to Shooting
Star for 18 years. Always have trouble getting a room until afer 6 p.m. Whats up with that!!
Cant ever book in a months advance even if you have tickets to the show and live 5 hrs away!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Good luck in getting a room until after 6 pm High rollers come first!!!!!!!!

Rooms are never all that clean but this trip was even worse. I doubt the room was vacuumed and hair was all over the shower. I think it would be safe to say that all housekeeping did was the beds and empty the garbage. The bartenders provided decent service. The Sunday morning brunch was average at best but one might never get a beverage. It used to be self serve, but when they started using servers it went downhill fast. I have waited,15-20 minutes into a meal lately before I can even get a water. They are lucky the Canadians fill up the place on weekends or else they would be in trouble.

My seventy-nine year old mother and I stayed at the Shooting Star Casino & Hotel in Mahnomen, Minnesota for two nights starting on Saturday, February 16th, 2013. When making our reservations online, we requested a room on the top floor, away from any noise, and we were given a Deluxe room on the second (main) floor of the Main Lodge near the back entrance.

The large-sized non-smoking room included two high queen-sized beds, each with two pillows on them, a clock radio, two regular chairs with a table, a sofa bed, a medium-sized HD television and remote with limited channel selection (mostly sports), free Wi-Fi, a mini-fridge, a microwave, and a coffeemaker. There was also a sliding door leading out to a balcony which overlooked the parking lot area.

The large-sized bathroom included four sets of towels, a hairdryer, bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion, as well as two bars of soap. The shower "sort of" had a handle, which my mother was able to use it to get in and out of with ease.

The nearest major town is Detroit Lakes, Minnesota which is about 40 miles south on Highway 59. There you will find a variety of restaurants and shopping (including a Wal-Mart), which we usually visit while we are gambling at this casino.

The hotel is connected to the casino next door, and is not too far of a walk. The casino has a few restaurants, an indoor swimming pool, a gift shop, spa, and a fairly large non-smoking slot machine section with its own entrance at the rear. There is also an events center where concert acts come to play.

After taxes, our rate for Room 2026 came to $257.21 U.S. Funds for the two night stay. Overall, we only came to this hotel because we wanted to gamble at the casino, otherwise we would not have stayed here. The room itself was a little dirty and we did not feel very comfortable during our visit.

From start to finish, the customer service at this casino was terrible. They lost our hotel reservations that we had booked a month in advance, gave us a down graded room that was EXTREMELY filthy, and ignored our calls to speak with a manager the entire time we were there. When we called to speak to a manager again after our stay, they basically dismissed our complaint stating we should have kept trying to get a hold of a manager while we were there...even though we told them we tried about 4 different times while we were there!!!

Wendy and I stayed here for three nights to see our favorite Country band, BlackHawk and usher in the New Year. We had a room in the Stardust wing that is separated by an interior crosswalk over a roadway and found it to be quiet, spacious, and comfortable throughout our stay. The TV had ample stations for our needs and the Internet, while fast, bogged down when upload of pictures took place. Overall, though, the service was well received. In terms, of the casino, it is located at the opposite end of the complex and is a smoking facility so I utilized a select set of clothing when traversing in that area. The event center is quite nice and hosts national acts (such as BlackHawk) for a seated audience of up to 1,500 individuals. A very nice motel that we hope to visit again!

Room Tip: 1. Try to book in the Stardust wing IF you want a bit more solitude and quiet. 2. The third floor o...

My husband and I have gone to several different Casinos in ND and MN. We like Shooting Star the best since it is the only casino so far that we found that has a big non smoking section. Most Casinos have a very small non smoking section or none at all. It also has a swimming pool and an exercise gym. The exercise place is not attached to the hotel so you just have to go outside for 10 sec. to get to it.
The hotel is OK. The beds are not Queen size, but regular size beds. The walls are paper thin so you can hear people talking or snoring in the next room.
