We went Preston to bike, and it was just as wonderful as we'd been told it would be...well maintained trails through woods, along the river, beside cliffs...birds, deer, flowers. A lovely and mostly level trail that even a "once-in-a-while biker" can manage. We brought our own bikes and rode those on Saturday, and then we experimented with three-wheelers for an hour on Sunday. Both were delightful!

...but when we saw people tubing down the Root River we couldn't resist swapping our bikes for an inner tube on this 90-degee day. It was a refreshing, smooth ride with just enough small rapids to make it fun. We'd happily do it again!

The trail was fairly flat, shaded and scenic. We biked 24.5 miles to Fountain one day and 27.5 to Peterson on day two.

Biked on the Root River Trail. Wonderful scenery of river, farm fields and limestone cliffs. Easy mostly level and shaded trail with many charming bridges Saw two rattle snakes sunning themselves and an eagle on stump in river! Lots of rain the weekend we were there and the Root River started flooding.

We have been going up to Lanesboro for years. The bike trail is our main draw. We love the small towns it goes through. The people are always so friendly. 90% of the trail is easy riding. If you don't want hills you don't have to ride any. I would recommend this ride for all types of riders.

The whole trail is paved and flat for easy biking. The scenery is beautiful. If you like to bike, you won't be disappointed.
