“No free breakfast, but very nice place”
Reviewed January 20, 2012

Turns out that this is an old style Holiday Inn but it very new and has the new logo. I didn't realize until I was leaving that this is not an "Express". They have a great restaurant attached, so there is no free breakfast. There is a big indoor pool and water slide just like the old holiday inns of the 60s and 70s.

We were in town for one night for a Christmas Party (also at the hotel) and our stay here was fantastic. The hotel was VERYclean and modern, the rooms as well. The bed was SO comfortable. We didn't take advantage of the pool area but many kids and adults alike were enjoying it, we wish we had brought our suits! We had room service delivered for breakfast the next day and although pricey - as most room service is - it was well worth it. VERY good and prompt and the food was hot and fresh. We just got drinks from the restaurant attached but wish we would have had time to eat dinner. Looked very cool and was packed with locals. If I'm ever in MN again I will for sure stay here. Everything was awesome. :)

We had my sons 1st bday celebration here and also got some rooms.place was very clean but price was outrageous 4 rooms.almost 200 dollars 4 each room and 4 a birthday party there u didn't get much 4 ur money.the holiday inn in owatonna did much more 4 parties.got no sleep@night because of some drunk people that came in the night but they did give us some money off of rooms.also my 3yr old fell by pool a few times because the flooring they have still gets very slippery and noticed other kids slipping also,so be aware of that if u r in the pool area

The Pros:
- The staff was very helpful and friendly
- The indoor water park was amazing & water was warm
- the spa was a great temp
- nice indoor courtyard
- room was comfortable and beds great
- room has a mini fridge & Microwave
- Price was very reasonable

The Cons
- No breakfast (but with fridge & micro - we bought food)
- Attached resturant is very pricy
- if looking to swim in pool, it's 4ft deep, and not meant to really swim in
- 20 or so miles from downtown, but not much traffic if driving after 9am
- the local resturants were a couple exits away

Overall - if I was planning on staying in the area again, this would be the first place I checked out for availability.

Room Tip: If you like a quite room, make sure to request a room that doesn't open to the pool courtyard

My husband and I stayed here for two nights during our visit to Carleton Parents Weekend. the hotel is right off I35W and a 25 minute drive to Northfield. The rooms are good sized and the beds extremely comfortable. Great service at the adjoining restaurant Rudys and we appreciated the variety of options for breakfast including eggbeater omelettes. Small complaint is that the fitness room is very limited and the room was uncomfortably hot. The staff should also install some disposable antibacterial wipes that users can wipe down the machines with. The actual equipment was in good order and included two treadmills, a stationary bicycle and elliptical machine. Very courteous front desk staff.

The indoor water park does the trick of amusing kids very well. It turns you room very umid and a lot of pool smell if you get a room facing the pools since it is indoor. It is not very close to anything so be ready for a long ride wherever you go. They have good online rates (Priceline) though.

This is a great location for my frequent business trips to the Twin Cities. I prefer to stay here than downtown, although depending on your travels could be a bit out of your way. The front desk staff is always so cheerful and polite, eager to help and I appreciate their hospitality. There is only 1 elevator at the back of the property so I've learned to request a lower floor on the outer perimeter. The 2nd floor rooms (if traveling with a suitcase, laptop bag and purse) can be tricky to navigate the stairs and too far to walk to get to the elevator. Other than the logistical challenge, the rooms are great with a microwave & fridge and plenty of storage. They don't offer a continental breakfast but you can order from the adjoining restaurant. The breakfast can be on the pricier side and includes the delivery fee to the room but is good. If it weren't for the convenience you could probably get more for your money elsewhere. But we do like the Rudy's Restaurant during our stays.

The rooms are always clean, wi-fi never lets me down, and the staff puts it over the top. Lots of families and children do stay here because of the incredible pool and play areas. But if you don't request the pool view, you shouldn't be bothered by the noise.

Room Tip: Choose a lower floor room due to the proximity of the elevators at the back of the building. If you...
