My hubby and I have both spent time in SE Asia and were missing the fresh flavours of lime and basil... we biked from Walker to Hackensack for a quick bite, then back. We stummbled on this little gem by accident; after getting a poor vibe from the "busy pub" a block away - where no one acknowledged us when we came in... anyways GREAT food, so fresh! Friendly staff... we would 100% go back.

“Second review”
Reviewed August 11, 2014 via mobile

This is the second review I have done on Udom's. The first was done on the second day they were open and I didn't think I would be back.
Wow have they come a long way. The food is great. The service is great and the staff is friendly. We dine there nearly every week and love it.
If you have not tried the place, do so and you will be delighted. Number two on the hot index is just right for starters.

“Authentic Thai”
Reviewed August 7, 2014

Hackensack is a wonderful place for a bike ride on the trail... but who would think that it was also a location for a great Thai meal. We found Udom's re- located to 104 S Hwy 371, Hackensack.
The deep fried shrimp were delicious. Even better was the Green Curry Soup with rice. The service was excellent and the space was pleasant. With or without the biking, Udom's is worth the drive. I know we will be going again.

“Thai to die for”
Reviewed September 11, 2013

Udom's Thai Cuisine in tiny Hackensack in Northern Minnesota is a treat on several levels. Not only is it unexpected, but it's totally different and the food quality is great. The waitstaff is pleasant and cheerful, and the restaurant is much more spacious this year, having moved from its first very cramped location on First Street (the address noted on Trip Advisor) one block east to a larger place on Highway 371 in spring 2013.
Favorites are pad thai, spicy minced pork salad, green curry soup! The menu is totally authentic, with a Thai chef (Udom) in the kitchen, but choices are limited. Spice levels range from zero to 3, so be cautious. The only negative is ... they're closed in the winter, which is the "slow season" in northern Minn.
You know it's great food when you dream about the taste.

“a northland surprise”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

I have visited this restaurant twice. To find a Thai place in such a small town was almost like a miracle, other than big city in Mn, these are almost non-existent.

The first visit was disappointing from the wait time to be served, but the food was good and the apologies were genuine. They were short of wait staff and it was a busy night. I had Thai soup and it was authentic and as spicy as I requested. These are people from Thailand and while they may make some accommodation for the market, it is true to the culture.

The second visit was an all around good experience. I was greeted cordially, seated quickly, served soon, and the Pad Thai was excellent.

The atmosphere is simple and brightly lit, but very clean. The menu is somewhat limited, but enough to satisfy all visitors. The second time I asked for less spice and that is how it arrived.

They do close for a while in the winter to go to Thailand, maybe to see relatives as well as upgrading their food base. I hope they continue to enjoy a good following, the area needs a diversity in menu choices. Please visit and help them succeed.
