Udom's Thai Cuisine in tiny Hackensack in Northern Minnesota is a treat on several levels. Not only is it unexpected, but it's totally different and the food quality is great. The waitstaff is pleasant and cheerful, and the restaurant is much more spacious this year, having moved from its first very cramped location on First Street (the address noted on Trip Advisor) one block east to a larger place on Highway 371 in spring 2013.
Favorites are pad thai, spicy minced pork salad, green curry soup! The menu is totally authentic, with a Thai chef (Udom) in the kitchen, but choices are limited. Spice levels range from zero to 3, so be cautious. The only negative is ... they're closed in the winter, which is the "slow season" in northern Minn.
You know it's great food when you dream about the taste.
