My family (two adults and two small children) spent several days here this past summer (2013) and enjoyed every minute! We had a downstairs room, which also had a kitchenette, which made things very convenient for us. It was very quiet and peaceful and felt like we were staying in someone’s home. The service was great - the dishes we used were cleaned every day! Our kids loved the outdoor spaces, and we all liked the proximity to fun things in town (the lake, shops, restaurants and the fantastic little ice-cream vendor down on the lake!) We will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Rooms facing away from the street are probably quieter. We stayed in the downstairs room with kitchenette and it was very peaceful.

Thanks! We are always pleased to hear that people made wonderful family memories here at the Bird House Inn and Lake Minnetonka! Some other fun things to do for a trip to Excelsior include a visit to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, Gale Woods Farm and the Old Log Theater. Winter visitors will find miles of cross-country ski trails, a cozy movie theater, and old-fashioned snowman making on our spacious lawn. We hope you visit again!

I liked the old, cosy and charming house very much. It offers all I need to feel at home during my extended business trips and Excelsior and the lakes are a fantastic start for running, biking or skiing. Will be back soon. Thanks Jeanne, and regards from Berlin. Florian

We recently stayed at this gorgeous B&B in Excelsior and highly recommend it for many reasons. The inn was clean, quaint and comfortable. We were greeted at the front door when we arrived and made aware of complimentary wine and munchies. There was plenty of room indoors to relax as well as outdoor seating on a beautiful patio or lawn. The inn is located just blocks from downtown restaurants and the magnificent Lake Minnetonka. We walked down to Maynard's for a cocktail and then to Jake O'Connor's for a wonderful meal. The inn keepers were very courteous and provided a delicious breakfast. They are very knowledgeable about the area and gave us some great insight on winter festivals and cross country skiing this winter on Lake Minnetonka. We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: We stayed in The Garden Room which has a comfortable bed, a claw foot tub with shower and gas fireplace.

We went to the Bird House Inn for our 30th wedding anniversary. It is a charming place, and we had a great stay. Excelsior is a very nice little town in which to stroll around. Would definitely recommend.

My husband, daughter and I have stayed at this B&B several times and have always received exceptional care. The innkeepers were friendly but not overbearing. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Lots of space to just sit and be quiet or join in the company of others, depending on your mood. We are from L.A. and appreciated the effort that went into breakfast and the variety of choices, especially all of the fresh cut fruit. The location is fantastic as well - surrounded by lots of terrific shops and eateries on the short walk down to the beautiful lake. Our stays at this B&B always leave me feeling like a kid again, running around the adorable town until the street lights come on. My only regret in writing this review is how difficult it could make it for me to get a room in this charming place once word gets out. Think I'll make my next reservation now, before submitting this. Seriously, five stars!

Room Tip: Tell the innkeepers what experience you want to have. Then try a different room each time you stay.

Thanks! We sincerely appreciate your thoughts! I know what you mean about running around and feeling like a kid again-Excelsior reminds me of many happy memories as a child in a small town where I grew up.

Summers do fill up fast here, so yes, please book early!
