Owner description: The North American Bear Center is the only educational facility of its kind - it helps people learn from the bears themselves about bear behavior, ecology, and their relations with humans. There is a huge need for accurate information about bears worldwide and the mission of the non-profit North American Bear Center is to advance the long-term survival of bears worldwide by replacing misconceptions with scientific facts about bears

We were unfortunate not to see the bears in their enclosure but saw them in the cages. Enclosure with water fall looked great. Enjoyed the pictures and stories in the exhibit. Knowledgeable staff available.

The bear center is very educational and family friendly. There is a lot to see and read about. The viewing area is nice and it was awesome to watch the bear eat up close. As we were wandering through, Lynn Rogers was standing there. He is an inspiration.

We went to Ely specifically to visit the International Wolf Centre and the North American Bear Centre, both of which are situated at each end of the town. We got to the bear centre just after opening time and spent over 3 hours there. The centre is dedicated to the education and the dispelling of fears about these wonderful creatures. The exhibits throughout the centre are informative and you can watch numerous short videos about various aspects of bear life, such as interpreting their various sounds and posturing. The 3 resident ambassador bears are normally in a huge 2.5 acre enclosure, which you can view from behind glass, but whilst we were there they were starting to build an outdoor elevated viewing deck. One of the bears in particular is very sociable and endearing and it was a privilege to be able to get so close to these magnificent creatures. The ticket is valid for the full day so you can come and go as you please throughout the day. The staff were very informative and friendly and open to questions.

Our grandson didn't like this quite as well as the wolf center, but we did enjoy our visit. It seems about the same as a few years ago; I hope when the addition is opened perhaps there will be some new exhibits.

There are probably 50 video screens with different video clips. Listen to bears grunting to cubs, cubs nursing make a lot of noise, see cubs being born, climbing trees, clips of lots of things about bears. Also a great collection of bear artwork. Don't forget the gift shop with everything bear.
