Kim and I spent a recent Friday evening at Bear Head State Park (Site 52). We had made reservations and were pleasantly surprised by the location of our site. We had a small well-maintained path across the road from our site that lead directly to the lake and a small dock where we put in the canoe. We fished the coves and bays on Saturday morning with success. The facilities were well maintained and clean, the site was clean and tidy with ample space for our old truck and matching old camper. The park is a great overnight prior to a BWCAW trip or as a closer for a trip, but well worth a visit on its own merits. We will return.

Bear Head Lake State Park is one of the most beautiful in MN. The sites are wooded and private. The campground was quiet, sites were clean and the lake is beautiful.

Just got back from a week long camping trip at Bear Head Lake State Park; can’t say enough good things about the park, the staff and the campground.

When I made the reservations last year, I had several questions and continuously called up to the campground and talk to several different staff members – each time they were kind, gracious and willing to help. This experience continued once we arrived at the campground. Everyone we encountered was helpful and went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.

The temperature was a little cold, but the fishing was still great. Most people in the campground seemed to be there for fishing – and were willing to share tips with us out of staters.

The campground shower and restroom area was always clean and always stocked with toilet paper and hand soap. The floors were mopped regularly and the place was cleaned daily.

The actual park is a beautiful place with lots of things to see while you are out and about. The hiking trails were well marked and of varying levels. We hiked the trail to Becky Lake and it was a little strenuous for someone who hasn’t hiked for a while.

There is lots of wildlife to see and enjoy. The loons were quite vocal and fun to watch on the lake. We found the eagle’s nest and heard the babies chirping for their mom.

Everyone should visit this lovely state park at least once – I know that we have already made our reservations to return next year.

Wonderful wooded setting in northern Minnesota. Great place to camp with large private campsites. Nice lake for fishing with boat rental. Wild blue berries in the summer and great tree color in the fall
