“Great State Park off the beaten path”

The drive off the highway is well worth the privacy you'll find here. Campsites are nice sized and the shower/bathrooms very clean. The early morning here is amazing, so quiet. Maps/signage for the trails could be a little better. We stayed an extra night b/c we liked the setting so much. The Soundan Mine Tour just up the road near Tower is worth the time.

“Great state park when around Ely”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

You need to be into the outdoors and able to go to a pit toliet to appreaicate this place. The facilites are very good for a state park, but subpar compared to a nice resort. The shower is nice considering it is a public area in the woods, but if it were at a motel, It would be unacceptable with all of the mold on the tile. The many docks were nice and the beach had some sand in the area. My 3 year old loved it and I did as well. The flush toliet was available, but too far to walk at night. I'll be back again, but this isn't for everyone.

“Shaded, isolated campsites; several nice lakes”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 26, 2012

This is a very nice state park on several beautiful lakes. The campsites are isolated and wooded, with lots of shade. It has a beautiful picnic ground and several boat landings, as well as camper cabins. Take a look for yourself!

“Great wildlife viewing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2012

I am not a camper and this was a stretch for my wife and I. We stayed in a pop-up trailer in the campground and our 18 yr old son and 5 of his friends stayed at site W6 which was assessable only by canoe. Our son said the canoe in site was similar to a BWCA experience. Staff was very friendly, bathrooms and showers were clean, costs were reasonable, we reserved our sites a couple months in advance (this is important as the place was full), the lake was beautiful - warm to swim in and calm to canoe on. My favorite was finding and watching a family of eagles in an eagle nest about 50 feet from the shore. Every morning my wife and I would quietly canoe up to the nest and watch the 3 young birds and 1 adult. They were very active. We also enjoyed seeing deer, loon, beaver, and ducks.
