“Low-Cost Quality Pizza”
Reviewed July 16, 2014 via mobile

Finding above-average pizza in the midwest isn't a difficult challenge, but having the right atmosphere is a large factor in a successful meal.

Detellos strives with its pizza and hospitality. The atmosphere is simple and joyful, and the pizza is, without a doubt, some of the best I've ever ate.

Unfortunately, Detellos lacks in several major areas. For one, the meat doesn't seem as flavorful compared to higher-class homemade pizza.

Second, the speaker system for the jukebox is downright terrible. Almost every time I pop in a few quarters, the music sounds grainy and the volume is too low considering the continuous chatter. Whenever I ask for the volume to be turned up a bit, it always sounds the same. I even saw an employee turn down the music once, and that is an act that should never happen.

Nevertheless, Detellos proves itself with it's pizza and welcome atmosphere, and is definitely worth checking out with friends or family.

“Great family joint serving local families”
Reviewed June 20, 2014

We've had years of great service and great pizza at Dettello's. The staff is friendly and the thino crust pizza is awesome. You're not in downtown Chicago or New York, you're in Suburban Minneapolis, so get off your high horse and have a good time with the family atmosphere and play "Queen-I'm in Love with My Car" on the jukebox. The staff will smirk and still deliver a great meal!!
See you next week guys...

“Only Average”
Reviewed June 4, 2014

Sorry, can only rate Detello's as Average. Here on Sun, May 18th with group of 6 adults. Not many in the place. Service was very slow as appeared to be only one server. Pizza had much cheese but not much toppings--average tasting. But the cheese bread was very tasty. OK beer selection. This is one of the few eating places in the area and has been there for over 20 years so they must be doing something right. Just didn't seem to be on the night we were there. Prices were about what you'd expect. Inside could use an upgrade---but maybe that's what people like about it?

Sorry, but I'll continue to go to Old Chicago near EP Center.

“Average Italian Food”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

We visited on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 11:30 am. We were the only people in the place. By the time we left at 12:15 pm there were only four other people in this place on what should be a busy lunch hour at most places on a Friday.

You seat yourself and then the wait staff person (only one employee to wait tables and the other employee is the cook/cashier) gives you a menu. There is a lunch menu and a dinner menu. The lunch menu is only offered Monday through Friday. Otherwise it is the dinner menu later in the day and on the weekends.

Since this was our first time in this restaurant we asked the staff person about the size of the meatballs. She made a size with her hand about the size of a tennis ball. We ordered one lunch order of spaghetti and two meatballs and then a 9 inch personal cheese pizza, thin crust, as opposed to deep dish.

The food was delivered in about 20 minutes after ordering. Both selections were screaming hot. The pizza is cut into square pieces (?) rather than the traditional pie-shaped wedges. Maybe if you were with small children these little pieces would be appropriate. It was visually off-putting to us. The cheese was good, the sauce was good, but when they mean thin crust, they mean thin crust - like dry cracker crumbling thin crust. For us the center of the pizza was the better tasting section because you didn't have the dry crumbling crust to deal with. Perhaps they use flour that doesn't have much gluten because there was no "chew" to the crust that we consider traditional.

The spaghetti and meatballs also comes with garlic toast. The meatballs were good and really tennis ball sized. The garlic toast is toast, nothing special. The sauce: Almost inedible due to the overpowering green pepper and onion taste. Quite unpleasant to us. The pasta is cooked well. So...much like the pizza that had two of the three ingredients that were OK (cheese and sauce) the crust was not good; the spaghetti and meatballs had two OK items (pasta and meatballs) but the sauce was not good.

Cost: Spaghetti with two meatballs, $7.45; personal pizza, $6.25, two soft drinks at $2.00 each. Total with tax, before tip: $18.99. You take your guest check and walk it up to the front cash register where the cook/cashier will take care of the payment.

Average food to slightly less than average. We don't need to return for average.
