“The absolute worst of the worst!”
Reviewed January 31, 2011

We were stuck in an ice storm and needed a room quickly. Not only is the management in this place the worst I have ever dealt with ( and I have been in a ton of hotels), but there is black mold in every door jam of the pool area and partiers around every corner. If you want to be disturbed by the sounds of people practically coming through the ceiling, people running through the hallways screaming at 11PM, management that won't get off their butts and take care of the noise, and drunk people hollering in the pool area 30 minutes after the pool has closed than by all means...this is the place for you. Don't even bother waging a complaint with management as they use every excuse in the book not to refund your money or offer another room. They will do everything they can to make it look as if it is your fault and not that the hotel and management is complete and utter poop. We had to check out 3 hours into our stay due to the noise and lack of management to do their job and were not refunded. After 2 phone calls to management and 45 minutes of being tolod we had to give "adequate time" to calm partiers down that were still drunk in the hallways and at the pool that was supposed to be closed 30 minutes prior. The people who were in the pool area decided that they would "party in the hallway" if they couldn't in the pool area. When we finally had enough we had to push our way through 20 partiers in the hallway with our 2 children 6 and 7. And what did we get from the hotel NOTHING!!! Don't waste your time. Stay at the Country Inn or the Americinn instead we wish we would have. This place gets a big fat 0.

Thank you for taking the time to convey your comments regarding your stay with us. Your willingness to share your thoughts with us is genuinely appreciated. We rely on you, our guest, to let us know how we are doing and how we can better meet your needs.

The guests review listed above does not quite match this guest’s reservation. Regarding the guest being stuck in an ice storm and needed a room quick, their reservation shows that this guest made reservations days in advance requesting specifically a poolside room. This guest has stayed here before and would be aware that our poolside rooms open directly up to the pool area.

Our pool area closes at 10:30 PM each night. Our front desk staff went down to the pool area promptly at 10:30 to clean up the pool area, when this guest called the front desk at 10:37 PM to complain that there were still people in the pool area. With a pool area as large as ours, it may take longer than 7 minutes to have everyone leave the area, and straighten up the room. The pool area was cleaned and quiet by 10:45 PM.

Our hotel has a quiet time of 10:00PM when the hallways are kept noise free. During this time our staff walked security rounds on property to insure the hotel was quiet. We received no other complaints from any other guest regarding noise.

We sincerely apologize that this guest did not enjoy their stay.

We stayed here on a Sunday night and couldn't be more pleased with the hotel and the staff. We paid less than half what we would have at one of the chain hotels with much poorer ratings...and got a great nights sleep.

Nicole, at the front desk went above and beyond to find us a room with a queen bed in a quiet location. She was very friendly and helped us later to get directions to a restaurant without getting stuck in road construction. We were given coupons for various restaurants and for cents off on gas too, upon check in. A nice touch. The breakfast was delicious, waffles and all the trimmings. Breakfast room was small, but they have an overflow room if needed. Food was kept stocked.

The room was somewhat dated, and obviously not new, but extremely clean, very comfortable, in good repair, and the mattress felt new...lots of support without being hard as a rock. The sheets were good quality, nice thread count, soft with no pilling and were comfortable to sleep on. Pillows were fluffy and comfortable. There was a table with two chairs, a microwave and fridge, and TV. Micro and fridge worked great. Carpet was older, but like the rest of the room, spotlessly clean.

The way I would describe the room is rustic. It is decorated like you would expect a rustic cabin to be, somewhat plain, and quaint. The bathroom had a big walk in shower with a seat. The water pressure was good, hot water was available when we took our showers. Internet worked great, was fast and we had no problem getting and keeping a signal. The TV had a lot of channels plus HBO. The channels worked fine, some were clearer than others, but they all worked. The view from our window (we were on the 2nd floor) was beautiful.

We would stay here again in a heartbeat. There are many hotels and motels in the Duluth area, and most are much pricier than this one, and don't even include a breakfast, microwave and fridge, or have a pool/spa area. That was very nice too, and we were sorry we didn't have our bathing suits with us to try it out. The people that were in them though seemed to be having a great time and we will bring ours with us next time...and there will be a next time!

If you are looking for a simple, nice place to sleep, with friendly staff, a pool and spa, microwave and fridge in room, free breakfast with waffles, and a comfortable bed, and are on a budget, this hotel is for you. We are already planning another trip up north, and will be staying here again, soon.

Easy to find. Clean hotel. Room was clean. The only concern is that the morning breakfast area is too small to handle the guest in the morning.
Overall I would stay here again. The staff were very friendly.

When we arrived at this hotel, we were at the end of our rope. We'd had a bad road trip from Southern MN with a blown trailer tire, we got lost in Duluth w/all their one ways and construction and we couldn't find the campsite that we were trying to get to. SO, we pulled into this hotel parking lot and I went in to check it out. By the time I was all registered, and I'd shared my sob story of our day, the clerk had lowered our price by $35 and upgraded our room. She was so emphathetic and helpful. Every time I went back to the desk to ask a question, they were all so courteous and smiling and the breakfast the next morning as perfect w/the yummy waffles that we put candles in to celebrate our sons birthday. I would really recommend this place!
