Description: Since 1976 Grandma’s Saloon & Grill has been a casual but lively adventure to the past where value and customer service are at the center of everything we do. You’re surrounded by authentic antiques, collectibles, and an eager staff ready and willing to please. The award winning food includes overstuffed sandwiches and burgers; USDA choice steaks; house specialty pasta and wild rice dishes; appetizers include nationally recognized homemade onion rings, chicken wings, and stuffed mushrooms. It’s an eyeful as well as a mouthful. The legacy of customer satisfaction has been handed down by the Italian immigrant who started it all, “Grandma” Rosa Brochi. Everything she did in her early boarding house business included “100% customer satisfaction,” words that we still live by today. Grandma’s Saloon & Grill is real history, real antiques, real service, and really good food! A dining experience of legendary indulgence.

“Good food”

They have a good selection of menu items that you would not expect at a "Saloon & Grill". The fish was great but the only thing that holds back is the prices, which are too high.

“What upstairs patio? Didn't see it.”

Grandma's is OK. Local "place to go." Not sure why. Area open had only high bar tables with high stools, not good unless you can climb onto high stool, difficult for me being a shorty.. Food OK, mushroom Swiss burger, some Swiss, practically non existent mushrooms. Friendly staff, split order and it came from kitchen in separate baskets, nice.

“The staff makes this place!”

The walleye was wonderful but our waitress Lori was FANTASTIC! Also, the price on the beer flights was really reasonable. The atmosphere was great for family. Really a highlight of our time here, we had a great time! Thanks Lori

“Decent food, great views”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

i feel like giving it a 3.5, but TA doesn't allow half points, so i gotta settle with a 3.... Nothing really spectacular about Grandma's---pretty decent burger joint in a historic building along the waterfront.... We sat on the upper deck with great views of the canal and lift bridge.... My burger was pretty good, but the kids loved their chicken tenders.... Wife's chicken salad was fair to good. But the best thing about the place is it's located in what looks to be a revived section of town along the canal, near the historic landmark lift bridge... It's interesting to watch the bridge lift to let boats go thru.... And, tho parts of Duluth have seen better days, and a good portion of the waterfront is industrial, this section of town is a bustling tourist area.... That said, it's definitely worth stopping at Grandma's for a bite.

“A fun themed restaurant with good food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 20, 2013

We ate twice at Grandma's Saloon and Grill during our recent trip to Duluth. The restaurant is family friendly (they seated us on the restaurant side rather than the bar side), and has a fun theme with neon signs and old fashioned looking decor. It was interesting just to look around.

We ate there the first time around 3:30 p.m., and the second time around 5:30. The menu for lunch is pretty much the same as dinner, but everything is a couple of bucks cheaper. I wish we would've noticed that before we ate there the second time; we would've eaten earlier so we could have ordered off the lunch menu. It wasn't busy at all when we ate at 3:30, but at 5:30 it was quite busy and crowded. We were seated right away for both meals though.

The food is more comfort food or tavern-type fare rather than fancy; atmosphere decidedly casual. The kids menu had quite a few different choices on it, and the kids meal portions were decent sized. My kids (ages 11,11, 9) got the kids meals and still had food left over.

The first time we ate there I ordered the chicken tettrazini over fettucine noodles. It was delicious. The sauce was a tiny bit spicy, and the chicken cooked perfectly. The meal came with a breadstick which was just okay. Big portions. The second time we ate there I ordered the full monte, which is a monte cristo sandwich and also comes with fruit and yogurt to dip the fruit in. The monte cristo was good, but very rich. I could only eat half of it because I was worried I'd get a stomach ache (and indeed I did, in the middle of the night). I should have ordered the half monte instead of the full.

The service was very friendly, and as fast as they could possibly be under the circumstances. We did have to wait for drink refillls a few times, but I expect that in such a busy restaurant.
