We've tried to get into the New Scenic Cafe many times but the wait was too long. We learned our lesson and made a reservation for a special anniversary dinner. Although we arrived early due to horrible weather the staff was extremely friendly & apologetic to make us wait a few minutes for our table. While the restaurant wouldn't be considered romantic, it did have a cozy atmosphere that seemed to absorb other diners' conversations rather than amplify.
Food was very good. Special appetizer of the night was tuna tacos & they were delicious. Duck breast was excellent, salmon was good. Service more attentive than some but not exemplary. Considering the amount of tables our server was attending to the manager should have had a runner fill coffee cups as well as water glasses. Coffee cups weren't filled often and coffee wasn't very hot.
It is pricey. 2 people: 1 appetizer, 2 of the lesser expensive entrees, 2 desserts & 2 coffees was over $70 without tax or tip.
By far the best value on the menu is the desserts. Special dessert of the night was a 3 berry pie that was very good. However, the blackberry cream cheese tart was outstanding! If you only like blackberries a little you should still order this dessert. Huge dollop of fresh whipped cream covered a mound of fresh, seedless blackberries followed by a generous serving of sweetened cream cheese.
