“Gourmet dining along Superior's North Shore”
Reviewed July 19, 2013

The menu at Scenic Cafe certainly has some unique items: Duck confit?? Grilled scallops on a bed of masa??! Where am I? A glance out the window is a bit disorienting: it's not the River Seine out there; it's the endless expanse of Lake Superior, just like the other 357 restaurants along the North Shore. The chef here is a marvel, though. The confit is served extra-large, with big chunks of duck meat throughout. The scallops are done perfectly, nicely complemented by the sweet masa base and spicy oils on top. Ahi tuna, herring sandwich, lobster roll--all delicious. Desserts are top-notch; the goat cheese cake was unexpectedly light and tasty, the creme brulee could easily satisfy three people. Wine list is short but imaginative. Decor is rustic Minnesota. Service is relaxed: they don't rush you here.
Bottom line: Scenic offers world-class cafe dining, in a beautiful location, at a reasonable price. Highly recommended.

“Good Gluten Free Options”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

There were several gluten free options which is always great to find! The GF bread was great. They have a nice wine list, fantastic service and amazing fresh fruit w/sandwiches, making them a healthier option.

“Wonderful”
Reviewed July 14, 2013

So good...made reservations and the earliest we could get in was 8:45pm....the food exceeded our expectations. The duck breast and sea bass was done to perfections and decent wine list, too...

“Wonderful fresh recipes in a great setting.”
Reviewed July 13, 2013 via mobile

Enjoyed the Red Endive salad and lobster roll for lunch. Very convivial atmosphere with a nicely varied crowd (some were in spandex from their cycling rides, others in jackets and slacks) and a wonderful staff. Excellent variation on both the food and drink menus. Clearly one of Minnesota's best.

“Judging from the parking lot, the food must be good!”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Heard about the Scenic, read about the Scenic, but this was the first time at the Scenic. And it is just that, scenic. Surrounded by flowering gardens, this little gem goes far above and beyond in the preparation and presentation of the really good, fresh made to order food it serves. Crowded and lines waiting at the 1PM hour, we did feel it was worth the 25 minute wait. The gardens kept many of the waiting diners busy with cameras, and the umbrellas the café offered to view the gardens on this damp and dreary day were a definite plus. Up north knotty pine, unpretentious interior. Nice, friendly service.
Lobster Roll (not a bit mayonais-y) is recommended, the special sandwich the day, the fried herring, was out of this world delicious. The rhubarb-blueberry pie was a slice of heaven and that was about all the 7 year old Isabella would eat. Not really a place for kids, although there were many there. Unique menu, unique flavors with specials changing often. All flavors of pie with those changing on a regular basis too. Pie is not to be missed.
