“OK food, disappointing service”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

The food was mostly fine, although my daughter thought the syrup on her French toast tasted weird. (She's used to maple. It was described as "maple caramel" and I'm not sure what they did, exactly, but it did taste sort of weird.) The most frustrating thing was the service; the waitress didn't refill my coffee until specifically asked to (it was brunch! coffee refills during brunch should be the default!) and (most annoyingly) she ignored us for about a half hour when we'd clearly stopped eating and were ready for the check. We finally managed to flag her down. You'd think they'd want to turn over the table, but apparently not. (Fortunately, we weren't in a huge hurry; if we had been, it would have been a lot more annoying.)

“Disappointed”
Reviewed October 16, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

We have eaten here in the past and enjoyed it the glutes-free selections. However, these seem to have disappeared off the menu...a new ownership, perhaps?

“Dinner was okay !”
Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

First time in Duluth, Read all the reviews, and was not that impressed! Service was good until I was ready to cash out, water and beer empty, credit card out in sight, and no wait staff! Waited a good 15 minutes! Food was average, soup of the day - chicken veggie - bland. Had the "Spradian " pizza, okay , but not special. It was a Monday night, in Oct., slow season! All reviews say it's a great place, just didn't see tonight .

“The Best of Duluth: Lake Avenue Restaurant & Bar”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We just came from dinner there, and I have to say this place is worthy of a long detour.

Their foods are locally sourced as best they can do, but even better, everything we had was delicious. DH and I weren't up for a big entrée, so split a bunch of dishes - grass-fed beef tartare, Ceviche, onion soup, and a chorizo and goat cheese pizza.

We're from the Los Angeles area, this place could hold its own among the best Southern California restaurants. Even their bar features small, local producers of beer (Broken Paddle ISP and -- get ready -- Surly Furious) and whiskeys.

We sat at the bar and talked with the executive chef (who was reading Harold Magee's book on cooking); late on, another of the restaurant's chefs came in to have a beer.

Fair warning: The prices are high, but the food is fresh, and locally-sourced, and delicious. We're actually considering a second night in the area just so we can eat there again.

“Interesting, healthy options”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

The food was excellent and the service very helpful and friendly. The restaurant is more of bistro style and has outdoor seating.
