7 West Tap House, which opened in October 2012, is a small spot in an 1890's building that has kept as much of the old as possible combining it with sleek, appealing modern tech. Its kind of a nouveau dive bar, if that can be said in a complimentary way. The Duluth region, like much of the US, has seen a boom in craft beer. 7 West doesn't make beer, but they have a fine selection of the area's brews among the 40 on tap. If sampling local craft beer is something you look forward to when travelling, 7 West should be your first stop when visiting Duluth. The place is an easy walk up Lake Ave. and a few doors to the left on Superior St., downtown Duluth's main drag, for those of you staying at Canal Park hotels. Duluth is a lousy restaurant town, and foodwise 7 West is just a burger joint- a place to fill up with ballast in other words. Beer though is the star here. An American strong ale from the tiny Castle Danger brewery sampled on a recent visit is the best beer I've had in months. I'm in Duluth once a month with things to do, and once the working day is over 7 West has become my go-to spot to unwind. I wish I got to Duluth more often.
