Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Finished in 1908, this Lake Superior 39-room mansion enjoys a rare, intact collection of original furnishings and art. Because of that, it closely resembles the days when the Congdon family first occupied it. Truly, it is Duluth's answer to Downton Abbey. Situated on a wooded lot, the home boasts spectacular views of Lake Superior, as well as, multiple gardens including formal, flower and vegetable. Guests are also encouraged to explore the carriage house, boat house, stone bridge and pier. Children enjoy the pebbled beach for hours of rock skipping while parents take in a sit on one of Adirondack chairs. Be sure to check out Glensheen as part of your must-do Duluth bucket list.

I knew a little about the history of the Congdon family and wanted to go and see the grounds one beautiful fall day at the end of October 2013. I walked the beautiful grounds, gardens, beach and trails and also visited the gift shop where I bought a book about the murders. The place is beautiful and was decorated with hundreds of carved pumpkins - it was really stunning. Next time I go I will take the tour to see the inside of the mansion itself.

Growing up in the area, you never know what's there until you leave. Came back to visit family with my husband and toured the Glensheen for the first time. While the murder story is interesting, what's far more so is the incredible Jacobean architecture. The priceless breakfast room, the woodwork, etc...while most of Duluth is run down you can definitely see the beauty of her heydey reflected in this masterpiece of a house.

One of the mysteries of Duluth~a murder.
Have visited many time and never tire of the tour held in the beaurtiful mansion and the grounds are fun to roam around on after or before the tour.
May purchase books written on the topic of the murders that were committed inside the mansion.
The mansion is so unique and beautiful. History very interesting. The man of the family was way ahead of the times in some of the luxuries they had in their home.
Well worth stopping while in Duluth and going on this tour if you like histories of a town.
