Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Finished in 1908, this Lake Superior 39-room mansion enjoys a rare, intact collection of original furnishings and art. Because of that, it closely resembles the days when the Congdon family first occupied it. Truly, it is Duluth's answer to Downton Abbey. Situated on a wooded lot, the home boasts spectacular views of Lake Superior, as well as, multiple gardens including formal, flower and vegetable. Guests are also encouraged to explore the carriage house, boat house, stone bridge and pier. Children enjoy the pebbled beach for hours of rock skipping while parents take in a sit on one of Adirondack chairs. Be sure to check out Glensheen as part of your must-do Duluth bucket list.

I found myself enjoying every moment of the tour. The home and estate is well maintained and full of original details.

“Glensheen”

Very interesting visit to this mansion. We were able to see many of the rooms in the house & our tour guide entertained us with stories about the family. Did not mention that the last family member had been murdered in the house until someone asked.

“Great view by the lake shore”

The tour is very educational and the most overlooked part of the Glensheen Estate in my opinion is the wonderful lake front that you can walk around after the tour.

“Awesome estate”
Reviewed September 26, 2012

I loved the thought that went into the building of this house. It is all well thought out with a lot of private spaces. I love history and this did satisfy. The gardens were pretty even in April when not much was growing.

“If you like history take the tour”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We took the tour of the first two floors and grounds. We found it very interesting and worth the $15 price (each) of admission. Tours are run often and very efficiently.
