“Natures Best with Convenience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

What a gorgeous example of what makes Minnesota special. Woods, meadows and streams bordered by wild flowers and grazing deer. A level, well maintained trail that appeals to all ages and many levels of fitness.

“Great multi-use trail”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013

We are on the Munger quite often throughout the year, whether it's hiking, biking, or inline skating. There are some very nice views and it's pretty smooth for the most part. Right now they're working on sections of the trail, which make it tough for inline skating, but you can still bike and hike through those spots.

“A Great Bike Trail”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

The Munger Trail, especially the portion from West Duluth to Carleton and back is one of the finest in the mid-west. It has a gentle grade and spectacular scenery. I recommend starting in Duluth biking to Carleton and then returning to Duluth with a lunch stop at the Buffalo House. The total distance of this ride is about 25 miles, but the last half is mainly down hill...

Please note that some portions of the trail were washed out in June 2012 floods. I recommend checking with Will (Willard Munger Jr. son of the trails namesake) at the Willard Munger Inn in West Duluth for current trail conditions and also for a good place to stay (if you need to overnight while in Duluth).

“Fun, scenic, historic, great exercise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

If you're a bike rider, trail has to be added to your must-ride list. It's worth a trip to Duluth just to ride this trail from Duluth to Carlton. There are so many scenic areas on this trail and overlooks that plan on more time than you'd normally plan on for a ride of this distance. The trail hooks up to others and you can ride to the Twin Cities if you want to, but for us, this is the most scenic portion of that trail system.

“Bike heaven”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

This is a long trail, accessible at many points for briefer sojourns.
Don't miss the Finlayson to Rutledge run -- which was re-routed to leave a farm field intacts and takes you down hills through woods to wetlands and then up again. The Jay Cooke State Park stretch is also pretty great riding.
