We have stayed at the Inn on Lake Superior many times both for business and pleasure. It is a very nice hotel - clean, quiet, friendly and great ammenities. My favorite thing is being able to see the beautiful sunrises over Lake Superior from our balcony/patio. But the thing that draws us back to this particular hotel every time we stay in Duluth is the nightly fires and s'mores. It's just a nice extra that the kids love (and adults do too). It's nice to sit by the fire, overlooking the lake and chat with other guests. We enjoy our stay every time and have never been disappointed with any aspect of this hotel.

Room Tip: Lakeside - it's worth the extra $

Thank you for your patronage, and for sharing your comments about your stays with us. There is something about s'mores around a (camp) fire on a lakeshore that just makes for great memories and lots of smiles. Please don't hesitate to let us know how we can serve you best on your future visits.

Long story short, my husband and I stayed at the inn last July for our anniversary (got the expensive jacuzzi room), but the room had issues with the toilet (and a few other things). It kept backing up and had poop in the toilet when we first arrived at the room. We complained several times and someone was sent up to plunge it each time, but we weren't moved to another room (there probably weren't any rooms to move us to since it was busy). We decided to check out early and not stay another night bacause we couldn't justify the cost if the room with the toilet problem. We explained why we were checking out early and the front desk girl apologized, but we were still charged full price (which was upsetting). We spent our anniversary driving home instead of celebrating.

The reason I gave the Inn 4 stars after this experience is because we've stayed at the Inn in the past and found this experience to not be the norm. Also, after I submitted an online survey to the Inn explaining the issues, they did make things right with a voucher for a free future stay in the same level of room. Personally, I like to wait to write reviews until I've given an establishment time to make things right, and they did. Had the Inn not done anything to make us feel better about our previous bad experience, this review would have been different.

Also, we are back at the hotel right now (using the voucher) and haven't had anything but good service, and no toilet trouble. The rooms have always been clean (except the toilet that one time), they have complementary s'mores on the weekends, a good breakfast, and even complementary apple cider (at least right now - could be seasonal). Overall, I do think it is a very good hotel and I would stay again in the future.

I was surprised at how lovely the Inn on Lake Superior was. It was comfy, super clean, and my room had a view of the lake that blew me away. I highly recommend this place. All the staff were wonderfully friendly.

Only downside is that breakfast is a little skimpy. Lots of bagels, waffles, and bread items. Some scrambled eggs with cubed ham, boiled eggs, yogurt...no meat option like bacon or sausage. That would be the only improvement.

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a lake view room. They all have little balconies and it's so refreshing t...

While this hotel is more on the pricey side, it is worth every penny. The lakeside rooms have there own patio space, which is nice to enjoy the fresh air and beautiful view. The room is stocked with a few complimentary beverages. Tea coffee and hot chocolate are available 24/7. They offer complimentary s'mores each night and have a story time for children on their beautiful patio space looking at the lake. They have bean bag games and bikes available free of charge, as well as any board or card game you could imagine. I have never had a better breakfast either! They offer all the normal fixings, as well as scrambled eggs and meat. You can make your own waffle or oatmeal - they offer strawberries, whipped cream, brown sugar and raisins - more toppings than I have seen anywhere. Best complimentary breakfast I have ever had. Overall, I've never been to another hotel that offers so many services and amenities at no extra charge. The price per room is definitely worth it. I could stay here a week and never leave the hotel. We have stayed here several times over the years - and watching it grow the way it has earned them our loyalty. We will not stay in any other hotel in Duluth. If we can't stay here, we won't go. The location is great as well. It is centrally located on the canal, so you park your car there and walk anywhere you'd like to go. Be sure to plan far enough ahead - the rooms fill up fast.

For four years we've been traveling regularly to Duluth to watch UMD football and for the last two years we've been staying at the Inn. Staff couldn't be more accommodating and friendly. The rooms are very clean, beds are comfortable and breakfast is wonderful. Waking up to the beautiful view and the Canal Park atmosphere is icing on the cake. Only wish we would have discovered the Inn sooner.

For years we have stayed at the Inn on Lake Superior- always traveling with our two huskies... we have always been so happy with the "pet friendliness" of this hotel- they were expensive, but always clean. When we went to book our fall vacation this year we found out that they are no longer accepting pets. I don't know why they have changed their pet policy but we will 1) no longer be staying here and 2) no longer recommend this hotel to anyone. Sorry - but am so very, very disappointed in them. We were really wanting to give Duluth some business- will look into other areas now... Bayfield, WI perhaps...

Room Tip: If looking for pet friendly, choose a room at another hotel.

I am very sorry you are unhappy with us and hope you don't take it out on the whole town of Duluth. We loved having folks bring their furry family members, but too many irresponsible pet owners have caused us to rescind this priviledge, and we are becoming allery free with our new remodeling project, and continue to be smoke free. I understand your disappointment and hope you will find other accommodations that you are happy with in Duluth.

Can't beat the year round out door pool which is kept at around 100F in the winter. The s'mores nightly and great location for walking along Lake Superior and to local restaurants in canal park is a big plus. The free breakfast is nice and perfect for families. The only negative is it can be pricy so try to get a discount off the rate and it the check in can be slow if a group is ahead of you. Otherwise two thumbs up.
