“Pretty good food, really great atmosphere, poor service was a trend in Duluth”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

Our meal here was very satisfying and reasonably priced. we split the smoked fish appetizer and the pot roast for two. The location was really cool in a historic old city building. We went down for a drink in the basement after, which was really cool. If we'd known about it, we'd have started with a cocktail there and then come up for the meal. The bartender downstairs was great, but the restaurant server was oddly unfriendly and slow. But that was our experience almost everywhere in Duluth (resentful servers and great bartenders) so we're just chalking it up to culture the way we did with all the restaurants we ate at in Paris.

“Omg love it!”
Reviewed June 16, 2013

We were hungry and tired and just stumbled upon this place and I'm so glad we did. Top notch service, the food was to die for... Fish and chips, and half rack of ribs... Fall off the bone scrumptious! Will def tell others about it!

“Okay meal, poor service”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

Our waiter was having a bad day or he just wasn't that good. Forgot about the salad and it took him a long time to deliver the check (same thing happened to the table next to us). Not very busy. The Rathskeller is not to be missed, however (take the elevator to floor -1). Great selection of craft beers (the upstairs only sells Fitgers) in a great setting.

“will do again, for sure”
Reviewed June 9, 2013

Came for an early dinner here. Shared a couple of house-made beers, a spinach artichoke appetizer, and a philly cheese steak. The service was friendly, the kitchen was really slow, the music was great (both live stuff and what was on the jukebox, mostly jazz), and the food was really good - the beef in the philly steak was fantastically good - almost too good to be in a philly steak (if you're used to having authentic ones).

Parking is difficult and the neighborhood is sketchy with the casino crowd across the street, but it's worth it -- this meal was far better than anything we had down in the "tourist" area of town. Had the kitchen been better able to handle the orders expeditiously and the menu pricing just a bit lower, this would be a 5-star review.

“Drinks? Ambience? Try the Rathskeller lounge”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Many people don't know about the Rathskeller lounge in the basement below Tycoon's. It is in the location of the old jail, the staff can tell show you some historical details if you are interested. If you are looking for a romantic spot to have a drink, conversation, or hide from people, the Rathskeller is perfect. Their food menu is limited, and they keep their drink options limited too, (I'm guessing to avoid the college crowd), but it is a great little unique spot that makes you feel like you know a local secret when you are there.
