Nice way to get the overlook view coming into Duluth. The have a variety of informational brochures. Just be sure to get there before 5pm when they close. The only bathrooms are inside the center!

“A Beautiful Rest Stop!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2013

Thompson Hill Information Center is located just off of I-35. Take the 1st exit ramp that you see when driving in to Duluth from the south end of town. (Boundary Avenue Exit) Go left at the top of the ramp, cross over the freeway, then take your 1st right.

The Center is situated on a hilltop that overlooks the harbors of Duluth-don't forget your camera for some spectacular pictures!

The rest area has a very large parking lot and can easily accommodate many RV's and over-the-road semi trucks.

The grounds are well maintained. The rest stop is conveniently located close to McDonald's and
Subway. It's a nice place to enjoy your lunch. It is set up with several benches and picnic tables. Yes, there is also an exercise area for "Fido".

Inside, you will find a Guest Services desk, along with maps and brochures on what to see and do during your stay in Duluth. There are large, clean restrooms and a vending machine with snacks.

A great place to stretch your legs on a road trip and introduce yourself to all that is great about the City of Duluth!

“What a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

This is a great place to stop before entering Duluth. It's located just off the freeway, overlooking the city and greater St. Louis River basin. There are descriptions of the view from the deck. inside they have a lot of information on activities in Duluth and North Shore.

“You MUST stop here first”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Stop here for all the info you need about attractions in Duluth. There's free literature of all kinds and the people at the information desk are beyond helpful. We wanted to do Skyline Drive and the desk person was able to tell us about detours because of flood damage and a raptor migration that was currently happening. We got exact directions to all the places we wanted to go. They also have general Minnesota travel information about things like bike trails, state parks and such. The view from the observation deck is well worth a stop in itself.

“Absolute first stop when visiting Duluth”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

I have made many trips over the years from Iowa to Duluth, and Thompson Hill is always a must-stop. Great place for scenic views, a stretch, clean restroom, and load up on information on current happenings in Duluth and area. That first real good view of "the Lake" is almost an emotional experience!
