“Modern, Clean - Great Location”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Great location in Duluth. Next to plenty of night life, bars, brewpubs and restaurants. The rooms were clean, and the furnishings are contemporary.

While it isn't a full service hotel there's plenty of places nearby to get a bite to eat or a drink. Certainly a cut above the budget hotels that are common for the area and I would say it's in much better shape than the older full service hotels in the area.

This place must attract some of the dumbest guests. How else to explain all the notes and tags with instructions? Five on the microwave alone, completely blocking the window. My favorite: the note by the toaster telling people to put their butter, jam, etc. on AFTER toasting. Really. The breakfast setup is pretty much like all Hamptons but I've never seen such handholding before.

On the other hand, the security is excellent. It's impossible to walk in without being seen by at least two alert people perpetually behind the lobby desk. And they have something I've seen only once before in my travels (in Hanoi, Vietnam) - cameras in the hallways.

One more thing I haven't seen anywhere else: the most fabulous view. A room adjoining the lobby/breakfast area has huge windows and comfy chairs, with Lake Superior in all its glory spread out in front of you. I'd love to be here during a big storm. Must be spectacular.

Great location, in the middle of most everything you'd want in Duluth. Book early; they're 80% occupied on average.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Your comments are very appreciated. I will do my best to reserve a lakeside room for you during our next big storm. You are very correct in what an amazing sight is. Thank you again and have a grea day!

I had the pleasure of staying at the Hampton Inn in Duluth, MN on business last week. It was simple, affordable, and very enjoyable. The staff was happy and helpful, and the view of sunrise over Lake Superior in the morning was a wonderful way to start the day. I can't wait to go back.

We had a one night stopover here. This Hampton inn was in a handy location with a view over the Lake. As usual with Hampton Inn's the staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was a king with Lake View, the room was spacious and the bed comfortable. Our room was right near reception so was a little noisy but it did not bother us too much. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: Maybe a room away from reception and the lift would be better

I had a wonderful time staying at the Hampton Inn. It really felt like i was at home. If their is a Hampton Inn in a town where i go and visit and stay it will be there. Around the country i have been to five Hampton Inn's and they were all wonderful.

I booked this hotel as it was situated in Canal Park, right next to the lake. The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. I booked via Expedia and had put a room request in following the advice of previous travelers for a room with a Lake view. They hadn't put me in a room as I had requested but when I asked they were happy to change the room I had so I did get a lake view. The view from the second floor was perfect and I could easily see the ships coming and going and watched people strolling on the boardwalk.

The hotel itself was clean, with good facilities . The breakfast was more than ample enough to set yourself up for the day with a selection of hot items, breads and pastries. Being centrally located for Canal Park it location meant that all the local amenities were within walking distance. The only criticism I would have is that during the night we were aware of the person in the room above (we were on the second floor).

We used this as a base for a 3 day break and found that the hotel was close enough to visit both Gooseberry Falls and Splitrock Lighthouse. I would happily stay here again

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeside view on the top floor to avoid noise from above.
