“Shipping, shipping, shipping -- and shipwrecks”
Reviewed June 7, 2014

Lake Superior is a dangerous place, especially in November... but that's never stopped it being a major nexus of cargo shipping. The Maritime Visitor Center walks you through the history and engineering involved in cargo shipping, and if some of the exhibits are a bit dated in design, they are still informative and often fascinating. Worth the time.

“Start Here!”
Reviewed May 31, 2014

Our first time in Duluth, this is a perfect start to get familiar with the shipping business on the Great Lakes. You can spend a lot of time here, great exhibits, well done. Right next to the aerial lift bridge. Parking at an adjacent lot for $1 per hour was easy.

“Great place”

This has something for everyone. A great history of the Great Lakes and it's shipping history. We go back every time we visit canal park. Every time we have out of town company we take them to the lift bridge and this museum. Be sure to take time to visit.

This is good for a quick visit if you are in the area. The best thing about it is that it was free. Cant beat that!

“Best things in life ARE free!!!”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

This museum with friendly staff is free to all. There is information on the shipping schedules inside, and they announce on loudspeakers outside to those watching the ships in the canal, the names and information about each ship as they enter and leave the harbor. Inside are exhibits on shipwrecks, a model of a ship's bridge that overlooks the lake, lighthouse stamps for those collecting stamps for their Lighthouse Passport books, and depending on the day, a lecture on different topics.
