Canal Park area has great hotels and is filled with great shops and restaurants. It is the hub of activity for Duluth. The boardwalk along Lake Superior is a must. You will have to pay for parking but many of the lots offer you the price paid discount at a particular restaurant or the movie theater. Once you park, you can walk anywhere - the Acquarium, the remodeled Marcus Theaters 10 screen movie theater, countless restaurants, ship tour, Vista Fleet harbor tour, etc.

We stop here on every visit to walk along to the lighthouse and hopefully see a big ship leaving or entering the harbour.
The little museum is very interesting. Go for a bike ride, feed the seagulls, people watch, or enjoy walking alongside the lake.

Always stop here on return visits. Walk the Boardwalk, Watch the ships arrive or depart. Enjoy one of many restaraunts, or strool around the Rose Garde4n or Leif Erison Park. Duluth at its Best!

We loved Canal Park, with its shops, fountains, yummy treats, and of course, the ships arriving and departing. We were fortunate to see 2 1000 ft. ships leaving the 1st day and 2 700+ ft. ships arriving the next! While busy, the drivers were very patient with pedestrians. The lakewalk is such a great addition from the last time I came soooo long ago!

There is plenty of parking and you don't always have to pay for it, and it's also easy walking distance from downtown. There is lots of space, which is good, because there are also lots of people. You can walk down the breakwater to the light (gated in the winter), visit the Maritime Museum for free, walk across the lift bridge and dine at several stands or restaurants. Be prepared for the high prices of the food.
