Owner description: Watch seagulls soaring while you stroll around this popular spot, part of the revived Duluth waterfront. Nearby are a sculpture garden, jazz clubs, coffee shops, motels and restaurants. If you like ships, stand on the pier and watch huge boats and ships, some from around the world, come and go daily.

Canal park is a must on a trip to Duluth simply for the lift bridge. But there are several nice shops and restuants packed into this area that could easily make it an all day excursion. It can be crowded on weekends, so if you can hit it during the weekday, that's best. (you will need to pay for parking unless you are staying at one of the hotels in Canal park)

I stop in Canal Park every year when I am going to the North Shore. This year I actually stayed in a hotel in Canal Park. This is a fun tourist area in the city of Duluth. There are many restaurants and quirky unique shops and galleries to check out. There is also an option of taking a harbor cruise on the lake. I personally enjoy taking these type of boat trips any time I am at a Great Lake. There is a board walk that goes along the lake that leads out to a longer walk/bike path away from the Canal Park area. It is fun to watch the lift bridge in operation. Also check out the lighthouse at the end of the pier.

Great place to base a Duluth getaway from! Wonderful hotels right on the lake and lakewalk (also towards on the otherside overlooking the harbor). Fun little shops, nice dining options from your local resteraunts to chains to nightlife. Lift bridge is very cool with the piers, look into the duluth shipping news (or online) to when the big ships come in, a cool experience to see under the bridge. Continue across the lift bridge for beach access and a cool short drive. Surfable beach if the waves are right (just very cold)! We always look foreward to going back and staying in Canal Park!
