This landmark has been around for darn near forever and watching in operation whenever a ship passes through is always a treat to watch. I've been visiting this amazing site since I was 12 and the internet wasn't even an idea on "Star Trek" yet. And it's one of those things that doesn't have a age limit on it for being able to enjoy. Anyone who has live in this part of the Midwest knows about this amazing piece of engineering. And if you have little ones, it's a good way to show them there's more to life than a cell phone. Like anything else on the North Shore, only complaint is the same one all of us in the Twin Cities have, never enough hours in the day to enjoy it all.

I grew up with the bridge, so it is nothing too exciting for me.

For fun--stand under it on the sidewalk below as it lowers.

If you are driving, be prepared to "get bridged" for as long as 45 minutes while the bridge raises and lowers for boats.

If you wave to people in boats, they generally are friendly and wave back.

This lift bridge is an icon of the Duluth, MN Canal Park area. The bridge "lifts" to allow harbor "to & from harbor passage".

When traffic passes under the bridge, you are literally within 30-40 feet of huge the 1000' long "laker" and ocean traffic ships.

A must see when visiting Duluth and the Lake Superior North Shore.

It's so neat to see the lift bridge go up and see the huge ships travel through the channel. When a ship travels through, they blow their horn and people come out from everywhere just to watch.

We were walking around Canal Park and noticed a boat approaching the bridge so wondered over in the direction. It was very interesting to see how this bridge operated.
