This is so impressive! The museum will post the schedules for the inbound and outbound tankers. You must see one of the mamouth things go though it. Be sure to notice the huge concrete counter balances. Listen for a loud horn that announces the bridge will be lifting shortly. Nice area around it.

We loved walking across the bridge and loved watching it in action. Was fun to see the bridge going up and down.

We've lived in Duluth for over 20 years, and when we have visitors, we take them to the Aerial Lift Bridge. It's a huge, impressive, interesting structure, and everyone likes watching it rise and lower for the ship traffic. Tip: position yourself under the bridge when it comes down, and then wait until the traffic starts up again. It's fun to see cars and trucks whizzing by over you (the bridge deck is an open metal grating).

The uniqueness of this bridge really fits the atmosphere of the downtown area. We were able to see it in operation a couple of times and my 18 year old son was truly intrigued by how it worked. Guess that's why his going to be an engineer.
