No matter how strange it sounds, you must spend time in the Canal Park area and near the Aerial Bridge. It is amazing to see the gigantic ore boats glide through a canal that seems impossibly small. Very interesting and relaxing. Fun to imagine where the boats are from and are going to.

“Amazing”

Ships traffic was such that we could watch the lift bridge go up without waiting hours. Great electronic schedule board so could plan ahead to be there at the right time.

“Heart and soul of Duluth”

Nothing to this other than to drive across to MN point, watch it go up or go under it on the Vista cruise. You won't miss it, it's like the Eiffel Tower is to Paris!

“Drive across, walk across, but definitely...”

Drive across, walk across, but definitely...

...stop by the Maritime Visitor Center for the time of the next huge ore boat passing so you can witness a huge boat passing under the raised bridge.

If its during visitor center hours, you can watch from just a few yards away through giant picture windows, out of the wind and cold.

“Unique history”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

When this bridge was built in 1905 it had a gondola that was suspended from the top that carried passengers, cars and streetcars across the channel. It was altered to its present design with the section of roadway that lifts to allow ships to pass beneath it. Duluth has ocean going ships that use the lift bridge to access the inner harbor.
