I could spend hours at the Aerial Lift Bridge, so much to see and do. During the summer months, several ships per day pass under the bridge so it raises several times per day. You can walk across the bridge and over too the other side of the canal. Best of all it's FREE! It's a great place to relax, watch the water, even the seagulls are entertaining! There are so many places within walking distance if you want a snack or a full meal. Wednesday evenings in the summer are a great time to visit, there are sailboats everywhere which is quite a site to see going under the bridge several at a time. I never tire of watching a ship come or go under the bridge.

This is an amazing bridge. It is used many times a day. It connects the peninsula with the harbor. It is a mecca for tourists during the warmer months. But also in the winter, it is amazing to watch in the Winter months as well. Don't miss this one.

We don't have anything like this in Australia, to my knowledge. It was just awesome to be able to stand directly by the canal, almost under the bridge, and watch the massive Great Lakes freighters pass through. The biggest of them all, the Paul R Tregurtha, went through whilst we were there, and although it frightened the life out of me when the captain gave three blasts on the ship's horn, it was really thrilling to be so close. Love it, love it, love it!

The Lift Bridge is something you will always remember once you've seen it, driven over it, or watched it raise for a huge "laker." I have had the luck to visit Duluth on beautiful days with my kayak. No boats were coming in or going out, so I planned on kayaking under the historic bridge. After reviewing all about the history of the area and the importance of the harbour, I was ready to explore the bridge from a truly unique viewpoint. It was amazing to be the only boat in such a huge passage and to compare my 10' boat to the 1000 footers that come through there was humbling, to say the least. I always had a special spot for the harbour and bridge, since its such an important stop in the Great Lakes, but now it means so much more. I highly recommend taking a trip to the north shore and be sure to stop at the bridge!

If you are in luck, you might get to be along the park when an large oar boat has to pass under this most scenic bridge. It is amazing to think how such a bridge was built with the limited amount of technology available at that time. These days a huge stationary elevated bridge would be built; thus, eliminating the need for any human intervention in operating this bridge.
