The location is beautiful. Right on the lake, with great view of the lift bridge and all of the activities downtown. But what we enjoyed most about our trip was the views. We had specifically reserved a suite and a king size bed and were moved to a larger condo with a queen size bed. The bedroom is in the front of the condo and there are no windows in the room so it's dark and dingy. We pulled out the sleeper sofa in the living area thinking it would be nice to sleep by the view but the mattress on the sleeper was like sleeping on pop cans. You could see every spring in the mattress. There is a beautiful spa tub in the room and a fancy shower system. However, the water temperature was warm at best and there was very low water pressure so by the time the tub would have filled, it would have been a cold. We only took quick showers because of the water temperature.
The deck is pie shaped and very small, there is only room for two small chairs, no table. The continential breakfast is bagels, english muffins, small yogurt cups, dry cereal, and a cold pastry. Very disapointing considering what we were paying for the room.

The staff was friendly and we were given a 15% discount because of the room switch. The room was clean and very nice and I could overlook the window-less bedroom had the bed been what we ordered, but the water pressure and temperature need attention, and if we had actually had 4 people in the room, the quality of the sofa sleeper mattress and the size of the deck would have really spoiled the stay.

We stayed mid-week on an anniversary trip because we got a good deal on our room. Without that deal I would have been much more disappointed. I would never pay full price for this place.

I'll start with the positives:
Our suite (which was essentially a condo that was for sale) was beautiful. The view of the lake was stunning and the furnishings were great. The "resort" (a word which doesn't really apply to this place but that's neither here nor there) was clean and the staff we encountered very friendly.

The negatives:
NOISY NOISY NOISY. Standing in the bathroom I could make out every word our neighbor was saying. We could also hear every time they turned on water, opened a door, or went in and our of their patio door. It was VERY VERY noisy. Our whirlpool tub was SO LOUD that we could not carry on a conversation while it was running. Not very romantic! To sum up: while this building is "pretty" is was built VERY poorly.

There was construction going on across the street and that was also NOISY. It was like the machines were in our bedroom. Granted that construction is temporary it does speak to the poor quality of the construction of Beacon Pointe that so many noises could be heard.

We will not be staying at Beacon Pointe again. We were looking for a nice relaxing QUIET getaway and there was nothing quiet about what we experienced.

Resort was very clean, staff was friendly, location is right off main hwy through Duluth. Although room itself was super clean, deck had spider webs ALL over it. Would've been nice if someone would have cleaned them off so we didn't have to ourselves. The only other issue we had, which is documented by other reviewers, was that sound from the other rooms was easily heard. Walking on the floor above and doors closing by rooms around us were really noisy. There seemed to be a small gap between the door and floor so as you could imagine, sound traveled very well. Also there was a large construction site nearby so although they were not working the weekend we stayed, I could imagine that noise may affect guests during the week. The evening smores and location right on the lake, along with the well furnished room and views, were all big pluses for the resort. Although the noise was an annoyance, we would probably be back again.

We stayed in one of the basic guestrooms the week before the 4th of July weekend. Our room had a window over-looking the indoor pool and the street (exit ramp off of 35). We also didn't hear much noise from the pool area. It was also nice to be able to open the exterior windows and get fresh air at night. Obviously, not the best view, but who is in their room in Duluth that long to care? The room was furnished/decorated very nicely, and we appreciated the over-sized bathroom. The biggest surprise was getting into bed after a long day of sight-seeing. The beds are FANTASTIC, and the bed linens were so soft - unlike the usual stiff, scratchy sheets you get in most hotel rooms - they were of higher quality. I usually don't like hotel bed pillows and bring my own, but even the pillows were great. The mini-kitchen was also a nice feature in the room. We used the bikes one day, which was one of the great amenities that came with the resort, and I particularly enjoyed the wide seat on the bike I used. They also had your typical mountain bikes as well. The Lake Walk goes right by the hotel and getting around Canal Park on a bike is the best way to go. The front desk people were always helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast is okay - typical breakfast items served. I was pleasantly surprised that I found the cheapest hotel rate at this resort, and this has to be one of the best, if not the best, place to stay in Duluth.

I stayed here for 5 nights and had a wonderful stay. Our room had everything we could want (microwave, plates, silverware, cups, refridgerator, sink with dish soap and washclothes, jacuzzi tub, washer/dryer, detergent, deck w/view of lake). I was suprised with the amount of amenties for the price, great value. We were even able to wash all our clothes the night before we left with the washer and dryer so when we unpacked, we could just put the clothes away. They even brought us laundry detergent in the blink of an eye. There was free underground heated parking which was great since there was some road construction going on the street out front. The smores were a nice way to meet other people at the resort and the bikes were handy for a great ride down to the rose garden. The only complaint we had was the noise from the room next door, which the hotel tried to fix by find us a different room and remiding our neighbors of the "quite hours." Would stay again for sure!
