Me and my husband wanted to spend a nice relaxing weekend away for my birthday. We stayed at the Beacon Pointe Resort and had booked a 1 bedroom penthouse suite. Because we live in an apartment we always try for the top floor knowing that there is a great possiblity that you will hear the people above you. Well the penthouse is not always the top floor and we found out the hard way. We had a family above us with 2 small children that woke us up at 7am on Saturday morning with them running, jumping and screaming. At 9am I had finally had enough and called the front desk. They did contact the room above us and they quited down for about 10 minutes. Needless to say we stopped by the front desk on our way out for the day to complain. I tried to speak to the manager but he was not in for the whole weekend...WHAT when you are busiest there is no manager! There were no other rooms available us to move to because they were completely booked. They had suggested that the manager could call us...I said yes! But the manager did not not call. We did not spend much time in the room because the noise above was soooo annoying. You spend a good deal of money to stay there and you can't even enjoy it! So the great views and beautiful room went unused for the weekend! So poor construction of the building leads to bad impression. However, I will complement the front desk staff they were very understanding and did everything they could to help. However, somethings are out of their control and with the lack of management help there was really nothing they could do. One other great feature to the hotel was underground parking...that was NICE. So if you don't want to hear everything that goes on in the room above you please request and upper loft room!!!! And everyone who doens't stay in the upper rooms please know that almost every step and noise you make will be heard in the room below you.

This place is amazing. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary and stayed in the one bedroom penthouse suite. WOW! Every detail was perfect. Hardwood floors, leather couch, stainless steel appliances, fireplace works in bedroom or living room, and a huge jacuzzi in bedroom. Didn't utilize the free bike rental, but will next time. What a great idea! I love that we were so close to Canal Park, but still far enough away to feel a little more secluded and relaxed. I will definitely return to Beacon Pointe!

This was a great place. The staff was accommodating, we had an issue with our reservations and the manager fixed it and even gave us an up grade, and the grounds were beautiful. We only stayed here for 2 nights and didn't spend much time at the resort. Though, the things we enjoyed the most about the hotel were the free bike rentals (which we used to explore all over Duluth), the morning breakfast, the smores at night, the comfortable rooms, and the view of the lake and ships.

We decided to spend a second weekend at the Beacon Point after a fantastic stay our first time a year ago. To say we were disappointed this time would be an understatement. The first time we went we stayed in a one bedroom condo for a fair price. It was a bit higher than we paid at other shore side locations up the shore, but it was new and we wanted to check it out. We got a great room, nice living room with a view of Duluth bridge and quieter than we expected with it being right on the Hwy. We were thrilled until check-out when they hit us with a lame resort fee to supposibly pay for the evening firepit, bikes and kayaks. All of which it was to cold to use in fall.
This year we went in late November, and yup they still charge a nightly resort fee for all the same stuff except they threw in swimming pool maintenance. Come on !
The real disappointment is we got a room with a view of lake, very narrow view and worse yet it was just a hotel room. Huge king size bed that filled the majority, 1 chair, a bar style sink and mini fridge. No fancy bath and jaccuzi, just a stand up shower. We've had nicer rooms at an AmericInn for $89 a nite. They advertised their rates at 25% off for the Holiday week. If $175 a nite after all the extras were added in is a discount I can't imagine paying full price in high season. And they were almost empty from the number of cars and patrons I saw in the facility. They deffinately could have treated us much better. And we had been considering buying a unit which is appparently what they are in the business for as they are trying to sell off the units.
We told them take us off your list, we are heading back up the coast to better dig's

This was a really nice place for the money. It is pretty new so everything was really clean and modern and nice. The rooms were big and had little kitchenette's if you want to bring food for a picnic lunch or something. The bed was very comfortable, and all the furniture was up to date and contemporary. The continental breakie in the morning was simple, but fresh. No stale bagels or anything, and the danishes were really good. It was RIGHT on the water, and a stones throw away from the lakewalk to canal park. It was about a 3 mile bike ride into canal park. The hotel offers free bike rentals, which is great! Your close enough to canal park to bike or drive...or walk, but far enough away to have privacy and not be trampled by tourists.
The customer service at the hotel was great. Eveyone was super helpful and friendly--hard to find these days. You also get free underground parking ..which was awesome!!Your car is nice and warm in the morning!

The only little compaint I have is the housekeeping. We left hiking for the day, and came back at 3pm and our room still wasnt clean and we had no fresh towels. I complained to the front desk, and they sent someone right away. However, they still left our dirty glasses in the room and didnt replace or clean them, and their was still wrappers laying beside the garbage can after they changed it. They also only gave us one clean towel.
It would also be great if we had a small coffee maker in our room, or at least coffee all day available in the lobby.
BUT, besides that, everything esle was great and we really enjoyed our stay here.
Its a great place for the price and close to every attraction in Duluth as well as HWY 61 to the North Shore. We would consider coming back here again next year!!!

I lived here for three months and found it to be very efficient and comfortable.

The rooms were clean and well maintained throughout my stay.

The front desk provided excellent customer service.

The indoor pool was not quite warm enough in October - December, but the hot tub was great.

A nice walk into town and the hotel loans bikes for free.

We stayed in the penthouse suite and found it well designed with a great view. However, we could hear every door close from the rooms below us and their TV. The hotel looks nice but they skimped on the construction and there is no luxury when you cannot sleep in on vacation due to your neighbors. This was not a result of rowdy neighbors either, it was the door closing and opening and their conversations conducted at a normal volume that passed through our floor. Very disappointing to say the least; we will not be back.
