“A wonderful place to enjoy and relax any time of the year”
Reviewed January 16, 2011

I just again stayed at" The Lodge on Lake Detroit "in Detroit Lakes Minnesota with friends. The Lodge is a very clean, cozy, beautiful hotel decorated in a north woodsy style that will calm any weary traveler. I also took advantage of the pool and the wonderful "Spa Within" which is another great attraction of the Lodge itself. The entire staff is very professional and takes care to ensure that you feel very pampered as their special guest. I highly recommend this destination as a great place to meet friends to enjoy the hotel and the vacation area it is set in. Great JOB Lodge staff! oh and let me also say it is within a mile of the Fireside restaurant a place that has been open for many years and has wonderful food which makes it better.

Our son was married in Detroit Lakes on New Years Day 2011. We stayed at the Lodge for 4 nights, my elderly parents in one room, my son and his fiancee in another room that adjoined our suite. The rooms were large and comfortable. We really enjoyed entertaining in the suite.

There were two major blizzards in two days leading up to the wedding. While the hotel had required a two night minimum for New Year's Eve, and a 72 hour cancellation, they were unbelievably kind about allowing guests that could not make it to cancel without penalty. At one point all highways were closed into Detroit Lakes.

My only complaint was checkout was very long as I asked to have my son's room moved to my bill and some computer glitch caused this to take about 30 minutes!

We ate there one night, "appetizers" in the bar/lobby area. There were five of us and only one person to make them. It took about 30 minutes and we got them one at a time, but they were pretty good.

Would love to come back without the blizzards, but the hotel did a great job taking care of us!

In the suite, your bedroom is on the side of the trains. I'm a very light sleeper and did hear them at night. If you had a regular room, I don't think you would hear them at all.

We were traveling from Duluth/Superior to Fargo on December 30, 2010 and were caught in a severe blizzard. We had left between noon & 1 & only made it as far as Detroit Lakes by 6 pm! They ended up closing the roads west of there so we could go no further. The front desk staff @ The Lodge were very accommodating and we had a room in less than 15 mins! We had a jacuzzi room that was beautiful! Unfortunately, the jacuzzi didn't work, but we were immediately moved to another room. The bar had appetizers & frozen pizzas available & we were happy to enjoy wine & pizza & finally be able to relax! The next morning the roads were still closed so we requested the room for another night & they were, again, very accommodating. When we found the roads were actually open, we were able to cancel the additional night with no cost! Thank you to Glory, Karl, the night manager & the front desk person Friday morning (sorry we don't remember your name!) for making a frazzled day turn into a relaxing night!! We will be back!

If you are in Detroit Lakes MN, this is the place to stay!!! I would recomend this place to anyone. My only regret is that I didn't get to enjoy their spa services. Hopefully I can next time!

We stayed just one night, but had a wonderful quiet time. The staff were very nice. My only suggestion is to make sure you have a front facing room as the trains at night did not bother us at all. It would be nice if they had a restaurant right in the hotel. But the continental breakfast was really good.

Thank you for your kind comments regarding our staff & complimentary full hot breakfast during your stay. It’s gratifying to know that our team’s dedication to providing a great experience was noticed & appreciated. It’s also wonderful to hear you enjoyed a quiet stay. The recent implementation of a “whistle free zone” for trains passing thru DL has made a big difference. No worries for future guests; ALL of our rooms are lakefront, “front facing”, away from the railroad tracks. We look forward welcoming you back again sometime!

This was an amazing place to stay en-route to northern minnesota. It has been beautifully designed and our room was extremely comfortable and well thought out. The beds were high end and oh so comfy and the bathroom was great with a big walk-in shower. We loved the use logs in the bathroom, giving it that 'woodsy feel'.

The rooms face out onto Detroit Lake itself and afford fantastic sunsets. We ate at the Fireside Restaurant which is within walking distance and were treated to a fantastic sunset as we ate!!

Highly recommend this hotel.

A year ago we were fortunate enough to have our wedding reception at The Lodge on a beautiful September day, and recently just returned to celebrate our one year anniversary. Each time we have been there, we have been beyond impressed with the little touches and the very friendly staff. From the ice water in the lobby infused with fresh fruit to the "clean" remotes they now have in the rooms.

When there for our wedding weekend, needless to say we were pre-occupied with many other things and kept saying how much we wished we had more down time to really enjoy the hotel. We got so many raves from our friends and family that were there from all over the country and were so happy that this was the place we choose for our Wedding. This year we were able to get back and really enjoy the place ourselves. Our anniversary was so relaxing, once we checked in, we didn't want to leave and rather than going somewhere else for dinner, just stepped downstairs to Lola's D's for a light meal while sitting in the rocking chairs overlooking the lake.

The Lodge is an intimate hotel, if you are looking for a large northern MN resort with constant buzz and activity, this isn't the place. But, they do have kayaks and paddleboats free for guest use. And two beautiful fire pits set off to the side, with plenty of firewood. We actually used those to entertain family after our grooms dinner. They are set back enough so they don't bother the other guest rooms. They also have boat slips to use, so you can dock your boat right at the hotel. For those that have commented on the trains, yes, there are in fact train tracks and a busy highway on the other side of the hotel, but you don't see them from the grounds. AND, many will be happy to know that the city has apparently changed their law, so NO MORE TRAIN WHISTLE!

The Spa Within is just an added bonus to the features of this place. Myself and all of my bridesmaids had services done the day before the wedding and they were just as impressive. It was the best pedicure I've ever had, and lasted the longer than any other I've had. Honestly, it was still perfect (no chips) after a week on the beach for our honeymoon!

In a nutshell for me, it really was one of the most relaxing hotel stays I've ever had. They have luxury without being pretentious. HIGHLY recommended for a getaway, whether it's two of you or a large group. We can't wait until our next trip back there.
