“OK Overall”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

The hotel is very nice, however, its right off the train tracks that go through town about every hour. Tough to sleep when you room is shaking from the trains! The staff is pleasant and the ammenities very nice including the bar.

We stayed on a weekday and the price was over $150. Very expensive for mid winter, mid week, and mostly empty.

Thank you for your recent stay with us and for your feedback. Please accept our apologies if trains passing through Detroit Lakes caused you any unrest or lessened your overall experience at The Lodge on Lake Detroit. A “whistle free zone” has been in effect since 2009 along the Hwy 10 corridor where many hotels are located. The Lodge was built with all rooms facing the lake (away from the tracks) to provide an extra noise buffer for our guests. Only 4 Family Suites, of 54 total rooms, also have a window facing the tracks, which may have contributed to your greater awareness of trains passing by. We sincerely hope that you will choose to stay with us again on your next visit to Detroit Lakes. Our team would be happy to assist you with choosing an alternate room type, not facing the tracks, to ensure your next experience is more pleasant and enjoyable.

We stayed at the lodge during a wine tasting, jazz band event. They have these a few times during the year. We did not attend the wine tasting but did watch the live jazz band. If you have an opportunity to do this, this is a must do! We had such a great time, the venue was small and personal. We plan to attend the March scotch tasting event with 2 other couples. This hotel is unmatched in service, quality of rooms, view and amenities. We have stayed in many many hotels over the years and this one is by far the best! Sarah, working the front desk, was amazing. She upgraded us to a beautiful room and is a testament to outstanding customer service. We used to stay in Fargo regularly but will now make this our hotel of choice and commute for the shopping. We had pizza at Zorba's, it was excellent. Order a deluxe!

Room Tip: Try to stay in a top floor room

The Lodge on Lake Detroit is very nice. The best asset is its location, with all rooms facing the part of the lake known as Big Detroit. Because we stayed there on one of the coldest days of the winter, we did not take advantage of the private beach.

The Lodge is modern, but its decor is definitely north woods Minnesota.

The fitness center has 2 treadmills, an elliptical, a weight machine with bench, hand weights, medicine balls, and exercise balls. The treadmills and elliptical are high-tech in that you can plug in your iPod to them or watch TV on the. The Lodge info, mentions? a recumbent bike, but that was not in the fitness room. The fitness room is a cool, crisp 64 degrees.

A delicious continental breakfast is offered for free (visiting non-lodge guests can pay $6.99). Breakfast included pancakes, yogurt, fruit with oatmeal, egg bake, breads, cereals, pastries, beverages, plus other items.

There is a pool area with a separate hot tub.

The Lodge has a few features that we did not have the time or money to take advantage of, including The Spa Within and Lola D's bar.

Overall, our quiet stay was probably helped by these factors:
* There is a hotel nearby with a water slide, so that is probably where many families with young children stay.
* The Lodge did not have many guests when we were there, so there was no noise from surrounding rooms.
* Although the Lodge is near the highway and railroad tracks, the rooms are away from those - we could hear the train a little bit.
* There was nobody snowmobiling on the lake.

The only improvements I would recommend are:
* Take care of ice in the parking lot.
* The rooms were clean, but need to be dusted better- the lamps, and such had small cobwebs.

I will hopefully have a chance to stay at The Lodge in the summer.

Jim at the Lodge helped coordinate or
family Christmas party. Everything went
so smoothly. The food that Jim catered
for our party was excellant.

We were so thrilled with the staff and helpful
everyone was!!!!!!!!! The facility itself was
great. Everything is so warm and cozy.
The beds were comfortable and so were the pillows.
The breakfast was great---loved the egg bake.
So much more than a continental breakfast!!!

We had our party in the Pokegama Board Room
and also used the two adjoining rooms. This
worked out very well for our needs. The board
room was well appointed.

All of the family was thrilled with the experience
and the vote was to repeat the experience
again for our 2013 Holiday Gathering.

Thank you for everything,
Vicki C.

I found every detail in this hotel designed to make my stay more comfortable from the lemon cranberry ice water in the lobby to the top-line treadmills in the work out room. We had an issue with our room (that was not the fault of the hotel) and the staff gave us a different room. The decor was beautiful as we were there at Christmas time. The breakfast was delicious. The rooms were comfortable and clean and updated. The whole hotel has a wonderful cabin-y lodge feel. I really enjoyed my stay and plan to come back to enjoy the summer amenities.

Room Tip: All the rooms have lake views.

Very clean, very nice. Upscale but not the Ritz. The Lodge and the rooms have a lodge feel, with lots of wood and warm colors. Make sure you get a lake view. Even though it was cold, we enjoyed sitting on the little balcony in the morning. The free (serve yourself) continental breakfast was good, with egg bake, waffles, and good coffee.

Great views, comfortable bed, clean room and bath, very inviting lobby and a free hot breakfast. The meeting room was very comfortable, large enough and conveniently located off the lobby area. I would recommend to anyone traveling for business or pleasure.
