“They spent more on decor than bedding!”
Reviewed May 6, 2014

Beautiful place we were staying on business and checking out for our daughters upcoming wedding. The place is decorated beautifully if you can get past the cleaning carts lined up when you first walk in. The biggest complaint was that even though we paid more for a suite upgrade the bed was one of the worst we've ever slept on. Maybe they should have spend more on the beds than on the northwoods decor.

This place is set up really nice. You walk in the door and it's decked out like a hunting lodge. Complete with a giant moose head above the fireplace. The room we stayed in was actually super nice and it had a great fireplace and interesting decor. The first night here I slept like a log. Great comfortable bed nice view of a golf course and access to the gym in the town square. If I were to review this place based on my first night I would have given it a 4 rating. The only complaints I had would have been the shower floor was super slippery while showering and the toilet paper was rough. The second night the place was filled with drunken wedding guests and children with no supervision. All night long I was awoken to kids screaming and running down the hallways. I was greeted early in the morning to more of the same. All I kept hearing was the stomping feet running to and fro. Not a good experience, I would rate my 2nd night at a 2.

Room Tip: We came when they were having a wedding- that meant kids running down the halls at all hours. Try t...

We were on the fence last time (please see my last review) but this visit will be our last. Picked up a last minute deal that they sent via email so we expected the hotel to be full. It was not full, but my was the staff not helpful.

We arrived Friday night and were checked into a king accessible room, why accessible I'm not sure, but we made it work. While the deal was supposed to be for a suite, we were told they were not available but funny - those rooms did not appear occupied while we were there. We noted there were children running up and down the halls and there were kids jumping upstairs. We assumed this would stop soon as it was getting late.

The location is great and most everything is within walking distance. We walked across the way for pizza at Rafferty's and came back to incessant jumping and pounding above us. After almost and hour we stood on the bed and pounded back. It sounded as though kids were jumping on and off a bed or couch. Well, ti did not stop and the tv in our room was rocking from this. We called the front desk and she said she would contact the guests upstairs. It stopped for about 5 minutes. After almost another 30 minutes I gave in and walked to the front desk. She said she woudl contact the people in the adjacent room as maybe it was them. Still not stopping...our phone rang about 20 minutes later in which they said the guests said it was not them. My husband asked if she would like to come to our room to hear/see for herself. She declined. She said maybe it was due to people running in the hallways and that she had asked them to stop but had no control. This continued well past 11pm.

The stomping started a 8am on Saturday again - good thing we were headed out for the day. We came back early evening to kids running in the halls and doors slamming. No intervention from the staff what so ever. People in the lobby were discussing what a disruption it was - still no intervention. The 'jumper' above us returned and it became clear that one of the jumpers was clearly in the room above us (220) as you could hear the door open/close and then jumping/stomping commencer. Another stop by the front desk with the response of well, we have told them. At least Saturday night it stopped by 10pm.

We were out early Sunday after being awoken by runners in the hallways. While I get this is pring break and kids will be kids, this was uncontrolled an disruptive. The staff was either overwhelmed or had just given up.

Would NOT recommend staying here until they address these concerns.

I appreciate your feedback on your past stay with us. I want to apologize for the disruptions you had during your stay. It can be difficult for our staff to control noise levels especially during a busy Spring break weekend. We have passed your review onto our staff to see and have implemented some new policies for our staff to follow. We do hope that you will give us another chance in the future with the complimentary night stay we have mailed you.

Planned our couples weekend getaway here with a deal-site coupon. We had never been here. We all loved this hotel. The staff was wonderful and so friendly. The rooms were really clean (I am a huge germaphobe) and spacious.
There was so much to do in the area - great restaurants bars and the snowmobiling trails were so well maintained.
We are planning to return annually even without a deal-site coupon!

We bought an online 2 night night deal for the Whitefish Lodge and Suites. It was the best deal we ever bought. The front of the building was non-descript, but the minute we walked in the door we were pleasantly surprised and captivated. The attention to detail in the decor was incredible- the huge great room with stone fireplace and antler chandelier, to the breakfast area with the rustic wood furniture. Our suite continued with the northwoods decor and had a cozy fireplace, a sitting area with sofa, and useful frig and microwave (which were helpful since the restaurants in the area are limited in the winter.) We were there during one of the coldest weeks of the winter (January 20-21), but with the golf course behind the lodge, we were still able to snowshoe and cross-country ski without a problem. The pool area was a nice place for respite in the evening to sooth weary and aching bones. The complementary breakfast was wonderful with a teddybear waffle maker. The small shopping area at Crosslake was quaint. I would return anytime and would be curious to see what the area is like in the summer.

Room Tip: Loved staying in a suite on the golf course side of the lodge. Beautiful view.

Thank you for your kind words! We are very happy to hear you had a wonderful experience at our Lodge. We do hope you come back and see us again. Crosslake is so different in the summer time versus this time of year. There are so many activities to enjoy outdoors from boating and golfing to biking and hiking. Again, thank you for your kind words and we look forward to serving your lodging needs in the future.

Loved the Oak Trees surrounding the pool, the huge fireplace in the great room. Room was clean, comfortable and decor was awesome, even the lamps were unique. Fireplace was cozy in room too. Would go again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: This is not by a lake and off season is pretty quiet, which we love. Definetely get a room with fire...

We had such a good time and great stay at Whitefish Lodge and Suites. We needed a couple relaxing days and spent them in the pool and sitting by the huge fireplace in the main area.
We found the room large enough and loved having a fireplace in our suite.
The price was reasonable, the staff was accommodating and friendly, and the town was so cute! We spent some time shopping in the gift store and the hardware store (yeah, really).
For a city girl, this was a nice 2 day getaway and not at all far from Brainerd. We also visited the Crosslake little train museum which was full of history and fun for kids.
The pool is adults only from 10 - midnight so we were able to enjoy the pool in relative quiet. They also had a sauna and huge hot tub.

Room Tip: They do not have an onsite restaurant but there is a cute pizza place across the street and a couple...
