I ditto all the other reviews. My experience at VDL at the best. Ed and his staff are the best. When our rental boat needed a minor repair (lights), they were on it and had the repair done in less than an hour. Then Ed even took us on the lake to show us a great Walleye hole. And to top that, he gave us the rigging we needed. A great time was had by all.

My wife and I spent the first week of July at VDL. It was our first visit but will not be our last. Great accommodations, great resort staff, great fishing, and great amenities. We had a flat tire on our boat trailer on the drive up and when I asked Ed for advice on where to get a new tire he insisted that I let him take care of it so we wouldn't have to interrupt our vacation. Within a few hours my trailer had a new spare tire. Now that's great customer service. I highly recommend VDL for anyone looking for a north woods vacation.

This was our second time to VDL and once again we had another fantastic family vacation. The staff are super friendly and always accommodating, From the moment we arrive to the moment we leave. Fishing from the pier is perfect for the smaller kids and my husband even enjoyed trying to catch that Northern teasing him all week! The fresh air and constant playing means everyone sleeps well and has great days! The kids meet friends and play at the park or swim. I cant say enough about this place but we have already booked for next year, this time for two weeks!!

Although the 11 miles of gravel road may make it a little difficult to get to the resort -- the resort; staff; and lake amenities make it a lot more difficult to leave! This beautiful Canadian Shield lake offers some of the best fishing that Minnesota has to offer. Anglers of all skill levels and ages can catch fish from pan fish -- to bass -- to Walleyes -- to Northern and Muskies, fishing is excellent. (Our sixteen year old landed a 53" musky on our most recent trip). Some of the best fishing on the lake can be found within less than a five minute boat ride from the resort.

For those who don't want to fish all day, every day -- there is the in-ground pool and scheduled activities for the kids.

Although the well-maintained cabins, rental boats, and amenities are great assets -- the tremendous service from the VDL staff is what sets this destination apart from the rest. Ed and his crew demonstrate their commitment to high quality customer service from the moment you arrive and carry the service on until after you leave. I have witnessed first hand several occasions where they have simply gone far above the expected "norm" for service to make sure that their guests have the best possible experience. The dock staff is attentive to your needs and very helpful.

VDL also offers an optional meal plan -- of which the quality was fantastic, and if you leave hungry...it is your own fault! There is NOT a bar / lounge on site -- but one within walking or boating distance if this is important to you.

Simply put...from families to fishermen -- this resort is certain to please!

My cousin and I have been going to VDL for the past 5 years or so, and we are primarily there for the fishing. But we have seen many family groups there as well, and VDL can accommodate both. They have an in ground pool that is very well maintained, nice docks for young children to fish from, and a game room with a pool table and TV. The lodge is pet friendly, and Ed's dog Bella (who is blind) is so fun to play with. She jumps in the golf carts to go for rides, swims in the lake and rushes to greet the UPS and other delivery drivers who always have a treat ready for her. As for fishing, it's terrific. We typically cast for northern and always get our limit, but we really enjoy the early spring crappie fishing and have caught some very nice bass too. And the walleye are prevalent as well.. The cabins are very clean and well maintained. Lastly, the staff there are great. The dock hands and lodge staff treat you right all the time, they are very helpful and friendly. We look forward to going back each year.

Room Tip: We stayed in Hillcrest, which is perfect for a small group of 2-4 fishermen.

We normally go to Canada but after staying at Vermilion Dam Lodge and enjoying some
great fishing, no longer need to go further north and spend extra $$. Great people and
accomodations. Will be going back!

Room Tip: Great bait shop in Cook, MN where you can buy live bait that in various sizes.

I have stayed at Vermilion Dam Lodge a couple of times. I am a an avid fisherman and have a family. VDL is a great place for the fisherman and for the whole family. While staying at VDL's lovely, clean, well appointed cabins, your wife and kids won't feel like they are at a fish camp. There is an outdoor, in-ground, heated pool that is open in the summer time, hiking trails nearby, and great fishing to be had on the lake. Ed the owner, and his staff, will make you feel right at home. They are some of the nicest folks you will ever meet and they work very hard to make sure your stay at their lodge is a memorable one. The scenery here is beautiful and fisherman will find easy access to the center, the east end , and west end of the lake.

If you are looking for a vacation at a resort in the north woods, Vermilion Dam Lodge is the place to go.
