We just finished The Best Vacation in Years! Our family of seven rented two adjacent cabins at Shangri La Resort. They were perfect. The grandchildren are aged 2,3,and 5 and the facilities were perfect for them. The cabins were spotless but "touchable". The beach and swimming area was great. They included kayaks, a diving raft and paddleboats. There is miniature golf, shuffleball, basketball, sandbox (with toys), and a playground.
Boats are available for rent,. We rented a pontoon boat and cruised Wolf Lake. We motored up the Mississippi from the north end of Wolf Lake and saw herons and all kinds of ducks. We found a delightful sand bank that rose above the Mississippi river giving everyone a wonderful view from the top of the dune.
The bald eagles are everywhere. The loons are plentiful and serinaded us every night.
There is lots for adults and children to do. There is a petting zoo nearby. Bemidji is only 10 miles away. A trip to the beginning of the Mississippi river at Lake Itasca is only an hour away and should not be missed.
The owner (Lori) and her staff are the most pleasant and helpful people you could hope to meet.
We are looking forward to returning in the very near future.

My husband stayed at this lake when he was a kid, so we were delighted to find an old-fashioned resort up here. The resort has about a dozen cabins, 4 docks, a number of boats, a lodge, and a sandy swimming beach. Our cabin was great. We had a four bedroom cabin, two bathroom cabin, which was bigger than our home! The cabin was very clean and was fully stocked. This resort is not fancy, but it is clean and comfortable.

The four kids we brought with us loved playing on and by the water. There were kayaks, canoes, paddle boats, other water toys, and a raft to swim to. They caught minnows with nets, and fished off the dock. The kids could have played right on the sandy beach for hours. There were a number of firepits as well, and we had bonfires at night. The kids also liked the rickety miniature golf, and the rickety playground!! We were there in the shoulder season after most of the activities were over, but the kids still had an amazing time just playing on their own.

We took out the pontoon boat a number of times, and had a blast going from lake to lake on the Mississippi river. The kids loved that the Mississippi was only a few feet deep and a few feet wide up there - barely big enough for the boat! Cass Lake is two lakes away, and you can drive over there in the boat for dinner.

The owner was very friendly and generous. She was so nice to our four kids, and really made this a family friendly place. She even took us out with one of her kids to a special spot for the kids to play. She really makes people feel at home.

The resort is about 5 minutes from an OK grocery store in Cass Lake (which also has a few restaurants), and about 15 minutes from Bemidji. It's also relatively close to Lake Itasca. A great location!

We had an exceptional time at our vist to Shangi La Resort, which is on a great beach on Big Wolf Lake, MN. Big Wolf is on the Cass Lake chain of lakes near Bemidji, MN.

We had a family reunion there and the owner and host Lori Hilmer and family were absolutely wonderful! The cabins were charming, and a beautiful sandy beach was right outside our front windows! We also used the canoes, kayaks, and other lake toys, as well as rented fishing boats and a ski boat for tours up the Mississippi River.

We rented the large house in the center of the property and had two families stay there, and then smaller cabins as well. Everything was great with nice appliances and lots of dishes, cookware, all that stuff. The cabins had outdoor firepits and we enjoyed making samores in the evening. Each cabin had it's own barbecue too.

They had lots of planned activities for the kids, and the owners allowed us to have a large family dinner in the lodge. Everyone was very accomodating and helpful.

The grounds were well cared for with lots of flowers and the beaches were always clean. They had a laundry there too, playground, really just about everything you would need.

The fishing on this lake was excellent as well - the guys all caught Walleye and Northerns and we just had a blast!!

I would recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a place to have MN vacation!!!
