Shrigley Hall Hotel, Golf & Country Club
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Pott Shrigley

This hotel has wonderful potential. Great location, stunning front entrance and hallway, you feel as if you are in a Jane Austin novel. All the staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant was very nice and food excellent. There seem to be two problems here. Firstly the decor is very tired in the bedrooms. We had booked it as a treat for a special occasion for friends and felt a little let down. The corridors also suffer from very old carpets and the ladies toilet by the bar was shabby. For the price the furnishings should be better. Secondly the restaurant seemed to be struggling with the number of people as there were coach parties. We were at the table far too long, with big gaps between courses. This did not affect the quality of the food. If the hotel furnishings were attended to we would return as there is a lot in its favour.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the lift as there is clanking and humming noise at night.

My wife and I booked this hotel for a 1 night stay on Monday 5th August to celebrate our wedding anniversary the package included dinner and treatments in the spa. We also upgraded our room (which included robes, late check out)
Check in was very smooth with no problems, our room was overlooking the golf course with great views of the countryside.
The room was large and very clean and the bathrobes and slippers were ready waiting for us.
Only problems with the room was the jacuzzi part of the bath did not work, we also found the bed to be very hard (maybe this is just us) and there was not much hot water on the afternoon before we checked out. Reception did not seem to bother when I informed them about the jacuzzi bath not working (I think it had not worked for a while).

The meal and wine in the restuarant was of a very good standard and staff were very professional. The breakfast the next day was also very good with a good selection of hot buffet, breads, cereal, fruit, dairy products and drinks. Staff again were polite and helpful.

We spent quite a lot of time in the leisure club and spa area over the two days, as we both wanted to chill out and relax. The staff in both areas were friendly and polite.

We found the treatments in the spa to be very good value for money and very professionally conducted. These treatments were very relaxing and also in a very relaxing environment.
The other areas of the leisure club that we used were the pool, this is not very large and you can not really swim any great distances, but the water was a nice temperature and levels of disinfection were okay.
The sauna and steam rooms were okay, however the top bench in the sauna was broken. The changing rooms were very clean, however the lockers did not have safety pins on the keys, so you had to carry the key around with you.
Overall we both had a very relaxing and enjoyable time which was the main purpose of the trip.

We have just returned from a 1 night stay at shrigley hall.

As soon as you drive up to the hotel it's stunning. There is a huge golf course, a area for crazy golf, marked walking areas everywhere was gorgeous.

On arrival the receptionist Zoe was lovely and very helpful. We arrived early but our room was ready which was a bonus.

Our room was near the back of the hotel about a 3/4 minute walk from reception.

The room was gorgeous.everything was clean and fresh. We upgraded to a premium room which was worth every penny (£20). Because we upgraded our room was bigger and we also got robes and slippers.

The pool and spa area was really good too although the jacuzzi was very hot so be careful. Again everywhere was clean.

Restaurant was brilliant. Food was amazing. Breakfast was buffet style and has the usual sausages, bacon, tomatoes, ham, yogurts, fruit and cereal.

I would defiantly defiantly recommend staying here everything was perfect and the hotel is just lovely!

Stayed for one night with a view to visiting nearby Tatton Park.
The hotel is an a fabulous location and really impresses on arrival.
The staff were excellent and attentive.
The Gym is one of the best I have come across in a hotel and includes free weights as well of plenty of machines so weight lifters can get a proper workout here.
The pool although small is adequate and includes a Jacuzzi, baby pool, steam room and sauna.
Dinner time was a delight with excellent staff and food. The main course looked way too small but in fact all three courses together were just right.
Breakfast was well presented and has a large variety of items.
The rooms at the front on the corners are very large and have an excellent view for miles.
Would definitely stay here again.

Had a wonderful room on the front overlooking the golf course and what seemed to be the whole of the North West of England. Lovely meal and breakfast. Attentive staff. Gorgeous Spa and swimming pool. Should also have been a great nights sleep in the middle of the country - sadly our room was on the route back from one of the Functions Suites. The Function Suite itself was brilliant sound proof and out of the way but the guests leaving and going back to their rooms were far too noisy and hung around chatting for half and hour.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not on the route back from the Function Suites and you should be fine.

Check in was fine. The time was about 12.45pm and our room was ready. We took the lift to the 1st floor and were greeted by large piles of dirty sheets and towels lining the top of the grand staircase and the corridor to our room. What a disgrace and a dreadful first impression. Management should get a grip. I think our room was 118 and it was on the side/back of the hotel. The first impression was it was a bit small and dated and then we heard the loud hum of the airconditioning units located on the roof immediately outside our window. On looking out of the window we noticed that it appeared to be screwed shut as was the bathroom window. The window in the bedroom was filthy and there was mould around the latch. The bathroom window was also filthy and again there was mould around the latch and cobwebs on the inside. The bedhead fabric/faux leather was peeling and the room had a faint musty smell. The whole setup was completely unacceptable. I went down to reception and told them I was not prepared to stay in the room. To be fair the receptionist didn't argue even though the hotel was fully booked and moved us to a different room in the "new" part of the hotel, which as others have commented is quite a long way from the main hotel. The room was larger but the shower mat was mouldy as was the grouting around the bath. However the room was a great improvement on the original but begining to show signs of age. The staff we came into contact with were were great but the whole hotel including the "new" part is in need of an immediate make-over. In its current state it most certainly isn't 4 star. Just who rates these hotels?

Room Tip: I suspect the best rooms rooms are in the "new" part but be prepared for the walk.
