Stayed just the one night for a black tie car owners club function. The hotel is in a great location with fantastic countryside views, a welcome reward after the steep and winding road that leads to the hotel. We were allocated a room in the vast annex at the rear of the main house and it was to say the least a route march to get there with lifts and stairs all being required. Our room was not quite up to the standard we expected for a hotel of this rating, the window did not open, the air was stuffy and bedroom fittings looking a little well used and tired. The hotel has a grand staircase on which we had some group photos taken. We ate the buffet food as part of the evening event which was ok, however the bar prices were as to be expected on the high side. The staff were attentive and friendly throughout our stay. I am glad we arrived for breakfast on sunday when we did on sunday morning because a little later there were large queues for food. There is guidance on the best times to go in the rooms but do not leave it to the end. Had it not been for the great company we were with over the stay and the fantastic location it would have been just another mediocre hotel stay really.

Stayed here for a wedding, Check in was quick and easy with friendly staff. Hotel was spotless and looks very grand upon entrance. Room was very clean and adequate for our stay. Breakfast the next morning was delicious and the young lady who welcomed us was very friendly. Overall the hotel is very grand and the grounds are beautiful, also all the staff were very friendly and we are thinking of coming again for a short break with the kids. Would recommend staying here highly.

Room Tip: We had room 145, which took us 20 mins to find. Make sure you get clear directions from the receptio...

Spent a few hours here recently ,no dates for a reason, the positive the function room we were in was an old church/ monastery and as such had an atmosphere you could not create, night lights on the tables and plenty of space and areas to retreat from the music if needed.the buffet was sandwiches and small savouries and was fine .the negative ,all our drinks at the bar ,same drinks for us , a different price every time and as the night wore on, our table had some very rewarding experiences with the bar staff.(shame it wasn't us )one bar staff loudly complaining when a queue developed ,not to blame him(on his own for 100 people) as his co worker had worked 20 hours in the last 24 and needed a break!!prices were expensive for a captive audience at £5.25 for a glass of wine and variations on that, for whoever was the lucky one on our table.no apparent supervision all night and our table collected all their own glasses until last thing when two lads appeared and starting clearing up.Its so difficult to ensure drunk people are charged and changed correctly but you have to rely on good loyal staff and management to do that.I was upset for the owners as It is a constant worry for them and ultimately leads to loss of profits and jobs.

The staff were so friendly & helpful, our room was lovely & clean, the food was exceptional. Excellant value for money. We had a complementry bottle of wine in our room which was placed in an ice bucket full with ice which I thought was a nice touch. The rooms were cosy & warm with a comfy bed. I would pre book a treatment next time we visit, the spa was very relaxing & the swimming pool was lovely & warm.
We will certainly visit this hotel again :)

This was a good venue for our conference being near to Manchester Airport and rail links. The meeting rooms, food and bedrooms were all excellent but you need a good sense of direction not to get lost in the hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front of the hotel were excellent.

The staff was inattentive especially at dinner where it took over 3 hours to have our meal. At no point during the meal were we offered drinks (not even water for our table) or an explanation as to why it was taking so long. There was no excuse regarding the volume of diners either as there were only a few tables occupied. My room was less than fantastic also, I was on the 3rd floor at the back of the hotel in a room where the windows didn’t shut properly giving a draught all night, it had a blind to shield the window which was dirty, frayed at the edges and was bowing at the sides not covering the entire window. The bathroom was not clean both there were long hairs on the floor and surfaces which were not mine. Overall I was very disappointed by the venue and the staff. They all seemed disinterested and didn’t even ask if I had had a pleasant stay.

Stayed for a weekend on 10th/11th May. My husband played golf - greens very disappointing, very bumpy but an interesting course. Our room was fine except for the creaking floor boards. I know it's an old building but outside our room 122 it was terrible. With all the traffic each morning you could not have a lie in. We had dinner in the hotel one night. Service was a little slow and the portions not large enough for a 6'4 farmer. The only thing that had any flavour on my plate was the potato (I had pork). Richard had the sea bass which was tiny - the fillets were small and tapered off to nothing. He had to have the cheeseboard to fill up on which cost extra. The bar was okay had a lovely club sandwich in there which was more filling than our 3 course meal. The spa was not very interesting-small pool which you couldn't actually swim in and was cold. Staff were helpful and friendly tho'. I would recommend The Belfry if you want golf and spa weekend. The spa is brilliant and afternoon tea 'omg'.
