“Spacious, beautiful, affordable for large groups”
Reviewed June 24, 2015 for a stay in June 2015

We had about 22 people, which filled all of the rooms. For that many people it was a pretty reasonable price per person. The kitchens are well stocked and easy to use. There is really much more space than we needed, though if you had a smaller group only renting one wing I think the space would be more appropriate. Rooms are all well furnished and beautiful. The grounds are amazing. Owners and care takers were very friendly and helpful, even gave us a tour. It is a little bit off the beaten path, but for the activities we did, it ended up being pretty centrally located for day trips to Kerry, Cork, county Clair. The wifi could be better, but other than that no complaints. I did not book it the castle so I can't say anything about booking or arrival, but the experience I did have with the owners/care takers was very positive.

“Perfect place for a family gathering”
Reviewed November 19, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We had a brilliant time here and highly recommend. The owners have equipped the castle with everything you might need. From a box full of vegetables grown on the land to Wellington boots they really made our stay as comfortable as possible. The castle was amazing with lots if nooks and crannies for the kids to explore, spacious and beautifully decorated. We would all like to return one day.

“An incredible Castle. One of the best group locations in Ireland.”
Reviewed March 11, 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We stayed at Springfield Castle for a weekend to celebrate a 30th birthday. There was 24 of us and we had the time of our lives. The Castle and East Tower are very different in character, both with bags of luxury and charm. Springfield Castle is even better than it looks on the website. Jonathan and Betty were very friendly and helpful hosts. I would highly recommend Springfield Castle, we're already looking for an excuse to return.

“Charming, pleasant, spacious, comfortable and very pretty.”

My family and friends stayed a week here on our short tour of Ireland and enjoyed the stay very much. For the castle itself, the rooms are all comfortable and well appointed. The ground-floor room with bath was very handy for one mobility-reduced member of our party. The kitchen is nice and warm, which seems to be very important in Ireland where it is chilly even in August. The other rooms (banquet hall, sitting room, the study, the entry-way) and just nice to wander off and be alone in.

We also used quite a bit the table-tennis in the upstairs attic. (We would have enjoyed using the enormous billiards table if the cues had been in better condition.)

The grounds are enormous and we had numerous walks around the grounds , as well as playing croquet on the croquet-pitch.

There are many, many things to do in the area.

Our hosts arranged for two dinners while we stayed, which were lovely. We also learned a bit about the history of the castle and the family and toured the work on the newly reconstructed tower.

I highly recommend Springfield and would happily go back for another visit.

“Unique & Unforgettable - most welcoming and comfortable”

Spent a long weekend for a family birthday celebration and what a place! We (8 adults & 2 children) stayed in the beautifully restored tower. We were greeted with a warm cosy house on a chilly day. Good sized bedrooms, all en suite, with very comfortable beds which added to such a relaxed retreat for us all. Huge self catering contemporary kitchen with all mod cods and upstairs a beautifully finished large open living space with books galore to wind down over a glass of wine. Regal style dining room which dwarfed our number but nonetheless we dined as never before. Lots of space for the children to play too with TV and games room. We felt very welcomed by Jonathan & Betty and stories of the history and renovation of the castle enthralled us all. Would love to visit again sometime and couldn't recommend it enough. Wait, it's my birthday soon...where's that number!

“Wonderful castle with Irish charm”
Reviewed September 5, 2013 for a stay in July 2013

We spent a week at Springfield Castle in July, 2013. It was a wonderful estate with plenty of room for the entire family. The weather was cool and rainy, which coming from Dallas, Texas in the summer, was exactly what we wanted. The hosts, Jonathan and Betty, were so helpful in planning our day trips and helping us navigate the roadways. Betty was kind enough to come and give us a history lesson over her family and their connection to the castle since the 12th century. Jonathan took my children on a tractor ride into the fields to pet and feed the deer. My kids also loved the dog, Fitzy, and the pet peacock who allowed them to feed him from their hands. Jonathan and Betty made us all feel as if we were truly their guests for the week. I'm sure that they tell the same stories each week and help with the same day trips, but we really felt like they took a personal interest in our family. They truly made us feel part of the Irish community, and that made for a wonderful experience. We also had a beautiful dinner prepared by Caroline and her daughter, Tilly, the first night we arrived at the castle. When we arrived there were candles burning on the beautifully set dining room table and a delicious, hot meal waiting. After a long drive on the tiny roads, it was a welcoming sight. All in all, Springfield Castle was way more than we hoped for - mostly due to our kind hosts and their Irish hospitality.

“Magical Springfield Castle and Tower”

Our family stayed in both the Tower and Castle, we were 22 all together with ages ranging from 12 to 76. We held a large gathering on the day after arriving to which some 70 relatives turned up, there was easily room for all and Jonathan and Betty (who host the castle) didn't turn a hair. As you are so remote you can make as much noise as you like, and truly relax, much was embibed and many a story told. The facilities are amazing, there is a full size snooker and table tennis table in the games room together with dart board and table air hockey, bikes for all to use etc. All bedding and towels are of superior quality and beds are super comfortable. We had a truly marvellous holiday, enjoyed many dinners/parties in the Tower dining room, went on many walks and returned home much refreshed with many happy memories. We would definately recommend that if you are looking for a venue that suits all - this is the one.
