“Decent airport hotel, especially with Executive Lounge privileges”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

I'm a Hilton timeshare owner and HHonors member so I stay at a lot of Hiltons and picked this one from the large group of Minneapolis airport hotels, for a one-night stay to rest up between flight and long drive. Be aware that although it says "Mall of America", this hotel is not that close to the Mall and in fact is quite far from it compared to other airport hotels on the same stretch of road, so you can't walk to the Mall or anything. However, the Hilton does run a shuttle bus from hotel to mall several times a day so you won't have any problem getting to Mall of America if you want to go. The only things within walking distance of this Hilton are a wildlife preserve area across the street, and a public transportation/ train stop a block away, as well as some other hotels. No restaurants etc. in this area so you will have to do all your eating inside the hotel or drive somewhere else.

Parking lot is huge and free but there are a lot of signs warning you not to leave anything in your car, which makes me wonder a little about safety. Once inside, the staff are all very friendly. Seemed like a lot of convention events going on in this hotel. Lobby is very nice. Upstairs you can tell this is an older building but it has been decently rehabbed with new carpets and some new fixtures.

I had a room with king bed and due to being HHonors Gold I got "executive lounge" privileges. I gave it the four stars based on having the access to the exec lounge, otherwise this place would be three stars. Lounge is on the 12th floor and has a full breakfast in the morning including bacon, eggs, toast, cereal, juice etc. as well as snacks of candy, cereal and free pop/ water throughout the day and free cocktail hour around 5 pm. This is a nice perk and definitely helpful given that the hotel restaurant is a bit fancy and there aren't any fast food/ coffee options outside. On a clear day you can get a nice view of the Minneapolis skyline with planes taking off out the executive lounge windows and it's also open 24 hours so no worries when you need a bottled water or a Coke at 1 am.

As for my room I had to take a handicapped room to get the king bed as that was all they had. The bed and furnishings were nice and seemed pretty new. A/C in the room was not quite up to the task of cooling on a 100-degree day outside and I had to put it clear down to 65 degrees to get any meaningful cold air out. The bathroom had handicapped fixtures which meant there was a lot of space and grab bars (appreciated) but also had a high toilet with no toilet lid, a sink where the water came out too fast for the depth of the sink causing water to go everywhere and no ledge for your toiletries (I had to put them on the decorative shelf across the room in a corner), and the tub had a hand-held shower attachment with loose hardware meaning it would not stand upright to be a shower head when mounted, and kept spraying water out the connection to the hose which would work loose. Bathroom was clean and pretty but they really need to fix the shower head as water was going everywhere except where I wanted it to be. Also no in-room safe.

Overall I would say this is a nice value if you can get exec lounge privileges and don't pay too much for the room. Mine was free with my Hilton points so can't complain. However if the price is above 150 I would maybe look at other hotel deals as there are a whole bunch of them around the airport.

Green Features: Would like to have a place to put the cans and bottles for recycling rather than in the trash

I was an all-Saturday staff member of a medical meeting at this hotel in August 2013. The hotel was responsive to our needs all day long, starting with my demands when I was the only meeting-staff-member present at 6:30 a.m., all the way to the end of it in the late afternoon. The breakfast and lunch buffet featured really excellent food, the morning and afternoon snacks I didn't have time to get near, and the beverages were kept stocked and excellent (both hot and cold beverages) all day in the meeting hallway. Everything was clean and pleasant, and the hotel staff really were helpful all day. We especially kept the audio-visual fellow on his feet helping our many presenters in multiple rooms. I would not hesitate to negotiate another meeting at this hotel. (Of course, they should be very attentive, considering what hotels charge for formal meetings!) Some of our meeting attendees flew or drove-in from distant places and stayed at this hotel in order to attend this meeting. I don't know what their experience was.

We stayed at the Hilton after a visit to the State Fair, we were tired at arrival and check in was fast and professional. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The pool and hot tub area is beautiful! We really enjoyed our stay.

This is my second stay at this Hilton and both have been related to a reunion of sailors, family and friends. The Hilton made a package available to us that was more than competitive. They worked with our cruise director to ensure a totally awesome event. Staff at all levels were overwhelmingly positive and helpful. Even my 00:30 arrival was handled as smoothly as a 2pm arrival. To any military event planners looking to use this area consider contacting this Hilton.

Room Tip: Our rooms have always been on the tenth floor. It is quiet with no room to room chatter or outside n...

I stayed here for 3 nights on a recent business trip. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel but I did have a couple of small nitpicks. The staff was excellent in the hotel, and the cleaning staff did a great job. The bed linens were top notch and very soft and comfortable, and my view from the 10th floor overlooking the nature area along the river was wonderful.

My first complaint would have been the lack of a mini fridge in the room, which made keeping beverages cold tough. I made due by keeping lots of ice around anything I wasn't planning to drink right away. That fixed the problem.

The second complaint was with the restaurant on premises. It looked lovely, so I stopped in one morning for breakfast. The server was quite slow. I stood at the entrance waiting to be seated for at least 5 minutes looking at a sparsely seated dining area. The food was excellent, but there is no way that cinnamon french toast w/sausage patties and a coke should be $22 including tip. I can find the same or better quality for less nearby like at the IHOP by the MOA. I'm afraid to see what they charge for lunch/dinner!

Overall, I will definitely stay here again when in the area on a business trip. I can deal with the ice, and I'll just avoid the restaurant and visit some of the excellent eateries in the Twin Cities area.

Room Tip: Take an east-facing room higher up in the hotel. The view over the river is wonderful!

Excellent choice. Sadly I arrived after Midnight and I had to be on the 6:00AM shuttle to the airport but this is definitely a hotel I'd return to.

I especially like the upgraded bathroom amenities. Very comfortable bed. Hotel seemed very clean and well-maintained.

The shuttle driver seemed very disinterested and disengaged (kind of felt badly for him - maybe he was having a bad day - it happens) but otherwise everybody was very pleasant and professional. Not that I interacted with that many people between Midnight and 6:00AM.

Easy to locate hotel, great location, friendly service, comfortable beds and pillows. Shuttle service to and from airport right on time! This was a great way to stay and travel! Our family of four shared a room and was very comfortable. Nice and quiet hotel near many attractions, including Mall of America and Ikea! We would highly recommend staying here and will do so again in the future!
