“Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed June 26, 2012

The hotel has an indoor and outdoor pool and an indoor hot tub. There is also a nice outdoor bar area (the pics on thew website are pretty accurate). It was a gorgeous hotel with pretty standard rooms, nothing special. Our room was clean and well kept all 3 days that we stayed.
I would also highly recommend just walking to the Mall of America if you choose to go shopping. It's about a 5 minute walk - you can get their quicker by walking than driving and you don't have to pay for parking.
One downside for some may be the proximity to the airport. You could hear every flight that went south - however, it really just sounded like a big rush of wind, which I actually found relaxing.

Room Tip: If you don't do stairs, you will need to request a first floor room. Also, pool side rooms are a...

This used to the Thunderbird Hotel. Although it's an older hotel it is kept clean and in great condition. The bed and linens are modern and comfortable. It's true, there is no fan in the bathroom but since it's not located right next to the bed it was never a problem. Staff and ground crew very friendly! The hotel was built in stages starting in 1964 so some rooms are more modern.

We paid extra for outdoor poolside rooms. The first room we checked into had bugs (fairly confident they were flees as they were on the bed and jumped, not bed bugs however that I know). When we requested a new room they obliged but NEVER apologized or acknowledged this as disgusting. Both rooms were outdated, dark and musty, not AT ALL what the website shows their rooms to look like. It is possible that all the rooms were updated or renovated like the website appears except the outdoor poolside rooms maybe? We stay in hotels at least 10 times per year and of all the sites we have stayed at in Minnesota this was by far the most gross. Were promised a mall of america coupon book and discounted breakfast and got neither. Very disappointing.

We chose this hotel since they allow you to leave you car free-of-charge while you travel. It was a very clean hotel, above average service, very good value and excellent little pub for food. Free shuttle to and from the airport, but quiet, sleepable location.

We visited family that was graduating from U of M and checked out the Mall of America in Minneapolis recently. We ended up staying at Ramada for a couple reasons.
1) It was offered at a discount with air tickets.
2) It provided a shuttle to and from the MSP airport as well as the Mall.
Since we didn't get a car, the shuttle was important to us.
Our impression is that it is an average motel. It has a pool which we didn't use, served food in the bar and provides a full breakfast for $10. Sadly lacking was a light breakfast option or continental breakfast. The only other option for breakfast was to brave the crazy Minneapolis freeway traffic or take the shuttle van to the mall. Neither was a convenient way to start the day.
The room could have been a little cleaner and the shower diverter valve didn't work well so it clattered loudly or most of the water came out the spout in stead of the shower head. Otherwise I have no complaints. The bed was comfortable and the AC was not to loud. There were lots of planes taking off and landing as would be expected for the location, but not much noticeable activity during the time we slept.

Great hotel close to Mall of America with free shuttle service twice an hour (which is very nice). You could do the walk to the mall, but it is a little jaunt across busy streets. Hotel is in good shape, for an older place, and the pools are very nice, especially the outdoor pool and bar. The room was updated, but bathroom was very small (but advertised as only a shower stall). The only complaint is the front desk staff...not friendly at all (not even a 'thank-you' at check-out). We made a call to the front desk to request more pillows - which never arrived. We would stay here again for the right price, but not for the front desk service.

I would not recommend this hotel. I went to Dallas on a two night business trip & as soon as I walked in I wished I has booked somewhere else. First off, the staff was not helpful. We asked where he liked to eat in the area & were given a general "there are restaurants in the mall" answer. When asked again "but what's YOUR favorite restaurant", the front desk clerk pulled a card from his pocket, write his name on the back in the 'referrer' box & said that place was his favorite. At this point, it was just disappointing we couldn't get a sincere answer from a local - instead we were just referred to the place he would get the biggest kick-back. We made it to the rooms & they were completely dark. I had to fumble a bit to find the light switches since they didn't leave any lights on for us. My room looked like it hadn't been updated since 1973. Everything looked old & gross - from the yellow courduroy chair to the barely-working lights that cast a faint, yellow glow. The bathroom was tiny (I had to squeeze in beside the toilet in order to close the door) & again, dimly lit - I was glad I wasn't planning on shaving my legs there, because I wouldn't have been able to see enough to do so. There were also holes in the closet wall & a bizarre ticking sound above my bed which coupled with the sound of planes flying & kept waking me. No complimentary breakfast & $10 is severely overpriced for what they offer in their 'cafe'. I will never be going back.
